I have a RCA D52W27D when I try to turn the TV the screen never turns on and the green light turns on and there is a loud screech and then the green light turn off, this happens 3 times ad then nothing. I noticed a slight electrical burning smell from the back, and I tried to turn on again and noticed sparks coming out the back with the screech. I pulled the rear panel off and tried to turn it on again and the screech and flash is coming from something that looks like a "transformer" type thing with a heavy red wire and a slightly smaller balck wire coming out of it and soddered to a circuit board. My question is, what is it and can I replace it and is there a chance that there may be other things wrong with it, because worked fine before the accured. thank you for any advise you can give.

I have the same tv and it does not turn on anymore after it sizzled, crackled and emitted a slight amount of smoke from the back of the set. Tv is about 4.5 years old. I think a recall is in order! Maybe we can save someone from a television fire one day.
