I have a new asus p6t motherboard. No audio.

New install, winXp SP3 32 bit. Sounds and audio device properties says "no audio device". Windows help gave me an alarm message "there are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices go to control panel, click printers and other hardware and then click add hardware"

New information. I downloaded and installed the latest Realtek driver. In control panel (add / remove programs) it shows the program as installed. I still don't show an audio mixer installed.

Next I reflashed the motherboard with the newest version of the bios, still no audio mixer found.

I looked at the motherboard and found the Realtek symbol on a chip. Two different versions of the bios and updated drivers, front and back panel sound jacks tried, no success.

    Any other suggestions?

Just put together a new system with the Realtek P6T. I have tried 3 different drivers, but I still can't seem to get any sound.

I've unmuted everything and have looked at other boards trying to troubleshoot. I've switched the plug on the board to AC'97 and still no luck.

Any ideas or is there an new or older driver that will work??

  • Anonymous May 19, 2009

Same problem. I downloaded the latest driver from DG31PR support page. No difference, didn't work.

The Device Manager (Windows XP SP3) also shows an unknown PCI device. I don't have any PCI cards installed though. Wonder if the two problems are related.

Install your audio driver for your motherboard.

Go to Asus Downloads

In the "Input Model to Search" box in the upper left, type your motherboard model. (P6T)

Click the Search Info button.

You will get a page that has 6 versions of the P6T motherboard. Select the correct one.

A window will open asking for your operating system. Select it from the drop-down menu. Click Search.

The list of available drivers will open. Click the x next to Audio.

There are 3 choices. 2 are for Reatek and 1 is SoundMAX. I would try the top Realtek driver first.

Click on the "Global" link to download it. When the Download window opens, Save it to your computer where you know how to access it after the download. For ease, you can select Desktop and save it there.

After the download, close all programs and run (double-click) the file you downloaded. Reboot after the install.

Should this driver not work, comment back and we'll try the SoundMAX.

Hello you can download the driver here:

http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=P5GL-MX&p=1&s=22

By selecting windows xp, and open the Audio folder, and click global for download.

The audio file needs to be unziped, before you install the driver.

Reboot after the install is done.
Update the other drivers, if any missing.

The audio file is newer present, in the xp installation file.

Good luck

Can the motherboard work with windows 7? I dinstalled the drivers for GF card but the audio is a problem. Do i need to install XP or can it be solved?

Sorry to say but this motherboard don't have support for Windows 7 that is the reason some of the drivers for it are not working , Asus did not release driver for this that will work with Windows 7 and they are also not listed to be compatible with it even though some drivers will work but the function itself still wont work. Best option here to make everything working is to go back to Windows XP.

You can download it from Asus. Open the link provided;

You'll need Adobe reader installed to view the manual. You can also buy the manual from Asus through Asus Estore link; http://estore.asus.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=5285

Run "Windows Update", to see if it will find updated device-drivers for the specific USB hardware on the motherboard.

Access the ASUS web-site, and search for 'P6T', and search for USB device-drivers for Windows 7 -- if none are found, try the device-drivers for Windows Vista.

Windows xp will not load audio drivers for asus m2n-vm dvi motherboard. realtek alc662

Boot your system & enter the bios. Please, carefully read the instructions at the bottom of page 1-32 in your manual. Make sure your AUDIO is set per instructions. Save & exit the bios. Create a folder on your desktop & name it, Realtek ALC662. Open the link provided; http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=fyD1uSu233yBDeCq Click the driver Download button. Than click the dropdown button & choose WinXP. Left click the + sign next to, AUDIO. Download & save the driver, Realtek ALC662 Audio Driver V5.10.0.5591, 52.96 (MBytes) into the folder you created. Open the folder, Realtek ALC662 & uncompress the .zip file keeping the uncompressed files within the Realtek folder. A new folder will be created & it will be named: RCL. Open windows device manager. Right click once on My computer icon. Slide your mouse down & left click on Properties. Click the Hardware tab, than click on the Device Manager button. Scroll down the list of icons. You should fine something like; Unknown PCI device or just a plain yellow upside down pair shaped icon with question mark or ! mark inside. Rather trying to install by using the CD sound software's setup.exe file we will do a more direct method of installation. Right click once on the unknown PCI device or the yellow pair shaped icon. Left click once on update driver. Windows hardware wizard will open. Click No, not at this time. Than click the next button. Another window will open. Left click once in the circle next to, Install from a list or specific location (Advanced). Than click the next button. Again, another window will open. We want to remove the green check mark next to, Search removable media (floppy, CD-ROM...). Click the green check mark once & it will go away. Click the browse button, click the + sign next to my computer. Find the desktop folder you created, Realtek ALC662. Open it. Left click once on the RCL folder so it is high-lighted. Than click the OK button Windows search within the RCL folder & will install the correct driver software automatically. Once completed. Close all opened windows & restart you?re system. Test your audio. If you intend to use a mic, you will need to set this up through windows control panel. Open, Sounds and audio device. Good luck& thanks for using Fixya. Mike
