SOURCE: Dirt/Collection Tank Bissell Little Green

I had the same problem, so I took out the black stopper, and soaked the whole thing in bleach water for about an hour, then I took a hand full of " aquarium " rocks and put them inside the tank, and shook them inside using a bit of the same water and then got rid of the rocks,( the rocks worked as an scrubber ) .... it worked pretty good

I think you have the same problem as me, If you lay the handle down and remove the tank you'll see a vacuum hose that runs from about the middle of the machine back towards and up into the handle. that hose probably has a hole in it. which is my problem also I can't get at the part of the hose that runs into the handle. I hope I could at least help you figure out what the problem was.

When was the last time you changed the flat belt? Even if it isn't broken it could be so stretched out that when the brush hits the floor it slows or stops the pump from spraying. If its a new belt then and your sure there arent any clog's that usually means the pump is bad. Also if youve ever used anything other than bissell shampoo in the machine it could have ruined the pump as well.

I have a hoover 5835-900 and it is leaking solution everywhere

You'll have to find out where it's leaking! Its not real hard. I will help you!

1. Fill the clean water tank. Check that the valve on this tank doesn't let water through when not on the machine. If it does this the tank is the problem.
2. Take off the 4-6 phillips screws holding the hood on to the machine. They will be on each corner underneath. Be Gentle! Do not break any of the plastic parts. Remove the hood.
3. Check where the clean water comes to a L valve. This valve is a very common problem. Place the water tank on the machine. DO NOT hold the handle down. Use paper towel to check for wet spots if you can't see where it is leaking. It should be fairly obvious.
4. If the water is coming from the "back" of the machine or the handle pry the cover off the inside of the handle revealing the hoses. The water release valves may be leaking. Be sure to check all hoses for cracks or breaks. Simply find the water.. and trace it back.

90% of the time it is the L valve which looks like this:

Carefully put the machine back together not forgetting anything and test!

How do i clean my hoover steam vac

The recovery tank cover does not come apart. If it is rinse out, immediately after you use it, this should not be a problem. However, if it dries before being rinsed, the dirt sticks to the surface making it difficult to remove since the cover does not come apart. The easiest way, I have found to correct this, is to soak the cover in warm soapy water and then use long pipe cleaner or wire wrapped in pieces of paper towel. It is important to run clean water through the machine immediately after you use it. Not just for the recovery tank cover but also so dirt does not accumulate in the rest of the machine or hose. I inherited this vacuum from my mother but I don't have the manual. I have 2 belts for it, but I don't know where they go. I can turn it on and it seems to work, but the bag doesn't fill up...

Most vacuum uses one belt at a time. The belt connects the agitator (beater bar) to the roller which is driven by the motor of the vacuum in the base of the upright vacuum.

To check if the belt is present/intact on the vacuum, look at the sides of the base for two latches. Push the latches away from each other then lift up to remove the cover so that you can check or replace the belt. To replace the belt, lift the agitator out of the base (first lift the right side). Cut off the old belt with scissors if it is still intact before pulling on the agitator. You may need to pull the bumper forward to get the beater bar out of the base. To put on the new belt, slide it onto the roller of the motor then onto the pulley of the agitator. Replace the beater bar in the housing. Start with the left end cap and make sure to keep the arrow pointing down on both sides of the part. Make sure that the agitator turns and center the belt before reattaching the cover.

While you have cover off, check for anything wrapped around the agitator. Remove anything that prevents the beater bar from turning freely. Make sure the area around the agitator is clear of any clogs.

However, if the belt is missing, the volume of dirt picked up will be less but not zero. It is more likely that the unit is clogged. There are several filters that need regular cleaning or replacement. The motor filter is at the bottom of the vacuum bag cavity. It should be cleaned with warm soapy water then rinsed completely. Squeeze out the excess water and then let it air dry. Wait until it is dry before reassembling the vacuum.

An exhaust filter also needs regular cleaning. This is behind the dust cover near the bottom of the area covered by the cover. To remove the dust cover, pull forward and then lay it down. To clean, put the filter under cold running water. Then air dry completely before reassembling the vacuum cleaner.

Finally check if the hose is clogged. First remove the hose by grasping it near the base and twisting it as you pull it away from the vacuum. Pull the hose completely straight then plug in and turn on your vacuum. Stretch out the hose and then let it relax into its storage configuration. Turn off the vacuum and then unplug it. Check for and remove any clumps of dirt stuck in the hose before replacing the hose.

If you have cleaned the vacuum and it is still not picking up dirt, try a different pile height setting on the vacuum. Also check if the agitator should be replaced.

Manage My Life has the manual for the vacuum here: http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/owner_manuals/15123/KENMORE-Vacuum-Upright-L0807740?brand_name_search=33078 . This manual gives the pictures of the various parts that need to be cleaned or replaced regularly. Sears Parts Direct has some parts for the unit; see http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kenmore-Parts/Vacuum-Parts/Model-72136078600/0582/0645000?sid=PDVertical .

I hope this helps.

I let someone use the cleaner, and it came back dirty. How to I clean the front plastic where the water pulls the dirty water through. It is day and filthy. Help

There are three screws that hold the clear plastic cover in place. Turn the machine over and remove the two silver colored screws at the outer edges of the cover. To remove the third screw, remove the dirty water tank, and you will see a screw at the top center. After the screws are out it should be easy to pull the cover off for cleaning.

Carpet Cleaner

Does water squirt out of the hose nozzle, if it does, then check the heater inside the handle asm. Make sure that where the tubes hook up to it are not clogged. If water doesn't squirt, check for the seal at the bottom of the tank, it needs to be on the tank, not in the hole, this is for the soap bottle also, there is a seal on the bottom of it as well. The flow indictor cap is leaking air or maybe is too tight. If you had the top cover off, make sure that the tubes are routed right so as not to get pinched when the cover is put back on, the smart mix knob should be in the water setting and that the piston is on the bottom of the smart mix knob. Pump is bad. Try running a mix of vinegar and water to see if that unclogs the lines. Is the top cover and the base tight together in the back, sometimes the top breaks loose and it will raise up and it can't spray, just re-fasten it down.

Bissell Proheat Clearview 1669

Take out the 2 long screws with the nuts on them, then furher down just beneath the hose wrap asm, there are 2 more screws to remove. Put the top part of the handle off, lay the handle down, on the front, at the top and in the center is a tab, push it in and pull the top half of the handle away from the bottom half. Then you will see the heater, don't mix up the hoses after you are done.

Bissell doesn't work with cover on...

Did you put the piston on the bottom side of the smart mix knob? If not, put it on, then turn it slightly so it won't fall off. Just before putting the top cover on, put the smart mix knob in the water only spot, then push the top on and make sure that the knob turns back and forth ok. Secure the top down, and put the flow indicator on. Sometimes when you over tighten that cap, it doesn't want to spray right. So just snug it. If you haven't pinched any lines on the base or inside the handle, it should work. Could also be that the flow indictor cap is bad. MAke sure the gasket at the bottom of the tank is on the valve and not sitting in the hole.

Won't put out water to clean

Check at the bottom of the tank and make sure that the seal is on the vale at the bottom of the tank and not sitting in the hole it sits in. Does water squirt out of the hose? If it does, then the heater in the handle is probably clogged. If it doesn't, then you could have a bad belt, pump or a line that got pinched, you have to take off the top cover for that. Speaking of top cover, check the back edge, is it together and tight, or is there a gap and the top cover is rised up some. If it is, then the back screw holes have broke loose.
