My computer is not communicating with my printer

Disconnect battery and let it sit overnight.

A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer. Reboot your pc. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer. Then try to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection.

If that doesn't help, try the steps below:

1. Disconnect the printer from your computer.

2. Rebrick (pull out power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds).

2. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.

3. Delete the Lexmark print object.

4. Reboot your pc.

5. When your pc turns on, reconnect the printer.

6. Wait until your pc fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list again, then try to print again.

Your vehicle's OBD computer monitors all your vehicle's electrical emission circuits.

Each time you turn your key, the computer considers this 1 x drive cycle.

When a fault (or out of spec) condition occurs, this will register a fault code in the computer's memory. Some circuits will only trigger the Check Engine Light (CEL) after the same fault occurs a few times. Other circuits will trigger the CEL with just one fault detection.

In the same manner, if the fault condition is only intermittent, the computer may consider the condition recitified, if that fault does not occur after several drive cycles (i.e. the CEL will no longer light up).

The only way to have this resolved is to arrange for your local Mercedes dealership (or authorised service agent) to connect their factory SCAN TOOL.....and read your computer's stored fault codes.

These fault codes will quickly identify the suspected circuits (eliminating unnecessary garage labor costs), allowing quick diagnosis & repair.

Note: Mercedes Scan Tools operate on a different communication protocol. Typical scan tools designed for American & Japanese vehicles use a different protocol, therefore, I recommend this be done only by a Mercedes agent (or European service specialist).

The process of scanning for fault codes only takes 15-25mins (depending on the technician's experience), hence should not cost you much to have this procedure performed.

Frequently, issues are caused simply by a break in the signal sent from PC to printer or vice versa. Unplugging and re-plugging the printer allows the small amount of on-board memory on the printer to be cleared, with the result that the PC recognizes the machine properly. Programs continuing to run in the background of the operating system (OS) can cause the signal to be lost. Rebooting the PC ends all programs that may be running and makes a 'clean' start, allowing the signal to be detected.
If connection is still not established, try to print the network settings page to determine if your printer is still registered in your wireless network. 1. Press Setup () on the printer operator panel. 2. Press the right or left arrow button until Network Setup is displayed, and then press(). 3. Press at Print Setup Page. 4. Press when prompted to Load Paper. 5. Press . The network settings page will now print.
Check the SSID and the IP address on the settings page. If info shows that your printer is no longer registered, you may need to reset the wireless network settings of the printer.
Follow steps 1 & 2 above, 3. Press the right or left arrow button until Reset Network Adapter Defaults is displayed, and then press . 4. Press the right or left arrow button to display Yes, and then press . 5. Observe the message"Clearing Wireless Settings". The WiFi light will momentarily turn off then lights up solid orange. You can now launch Wireless Configuration Utility or Wireless Setup Assistant (Macintosh) to reconfigure your printer to connect to your network.

Try to reset your printer to factory default settings. On the printer operator panel, press the Setup button -> Defaults -> Set Default -> Use Factory. You will be prompted to enter the date and time, etc. Then power cycle your printer. Remove the power adapter from the printer.



Wait at least 10 seconds before replugging the power adapter.

When your printer turns on, check if it's properly working now. If problem continues, please contact Lexmark technical support for additional assistance.

Press & hold the power button > unplug the power cable from the back of the printer while holding the button for 30 seconds > plug the cable back then release the button.

A semi-full reset will do the following:
The user settings to the factory defaults, Language and country settings on some models.

Reset the All-in-One to the factory default settings by using these instructions:

1. Unplug the power cable from printer when the printer is powered on.

2. Press and hold OK and HELP buttons while plugging in the power cord.

You can solve this through any computer that can print to the printer.

1. Press Settings on the Control Panel

2. Use the arrow keys on the printer to select " Network Settings" and press the check mark key

3. Use the arrow keys on the printer to select " TCP/IP" and press the check mark key

4. Use the arrow keys on the printer to select " View IP Address" and press the check mark key

5. Write down the IP number displayed on the LCD (i.e. 192.168.1.205)

6. Enter this number in the address bar on computer (i.e. http:/192.168.1.205) and press enter

7. The Lexmark Printer Status page should display

8. Select "Configuration" and "Scan to Network Host Management"

Now you can delete any computer name that is no longer needed.

It sounds like you're not the only person to have problems with their Lexmark Printer. On www.fixyourowncomputer.com (where I found the answer), there were people asking about solutions to your exact problem as recently as late January 2010. I copied this straight off of the web site:

If you're getting communication errors, you need to full reset the PRINTER and COMPUTER to factory settings and set it up fresh. This means you need to reset every setting on the printers control panel (thats physically on the printer, not in windows) to the factory settings.

Reset to factory
Unplug the printer

Uninstall all instances of lexmark software and drivers
Uninstall any third party scanning software
Restart the computer
For wireless networks, this means changing your WEP key as well. Just to make sure the printers settings have not been stored.

Now plug the printer back in
Run the software setup. And choose setup like its your first time. Youll need your USB cable to correctly set it back up. So get that out.

Follow the prompts of the software. Make sure you get to enter the new WEP key into the lexmark setup wizard.

When the lexmark installer completes, install any third party scanning software that you are using to scan. It should be able to fully communicate with the AIO (all in one) printer now.

1. Check the automatic brightness and color settings by doing the following:
2. Click Settings , click Scan Settings and Preferences , then click Preferences .
3. Enable or disable (depending on their current state) the Automatically adjust exposure and/or Automatically adjust color settings.
4. Click OK .
5. Expand the scan preview by clicking the arrow on the right, and then adjust the Color settings prior to performing a final scan.
6. Sometimes the scan will pick up reflected colors, try rotating the original 90 degrees and then scan again.
7. All models except the PSC 1100 and 1200: If the scan still is not right, try resetting the all-in-one back to the factory default settings. Follow these steps to reset the defaults:
8. Press Setup or Menu depending on your model.
9. Press the Right Arrow or the Down Arrow until Maintenance or Tools appears in the Display, and then press Enter .
10. Press the Right Arrow or the Down Arrow until Restore Factory Defaults appears in the Display, and then press Enter .
11. Reset the all-in-one by unplugging the power cord and then plugging it back in. This will force the all-in-one to recalibrate
