SOURCE: Panasonic KX-FM220 fax machine does have a dial tone

I would double check your phone cord. There is usually 2 jacks in the back of the fax machine. 1 is for Line, and 1 is for phone.
Your phone cord should be hooked up in the LINE jack that goes to the wall.
I would also double check your phone cord on another phone to make sure the cord is good.
If you look at the clear connector that you plug into your wall and fax machine, does it have 4 copper/gold color wires contacts imbedded in the clear plastic connector?

Another thing to try, if you fax machine has a Line and a Phone connector, try plugging in a phone in the PHONE connector. Then hook up another phone cord going from the LINE to the WALL jack.
If you get a dial tone on your Phone, then you know you have it connected correctly. If no dial tone, then I would go back to the phone cord.
check those things and get back to me and I will see if I can help you with more suggestions.
Good luck.
Mac =)

SOURCE: can't receive fax on KX-FL511-

This is a common problem with phone on L-Lines. If you have the phone connected without a filter, this could be causing the line to drop. If you have an extra filter, try installing the filter on this portion of the line. Try connecting the line directly to the outlet as well and send a fax. The line is dropping signal during the toning process, so it things the transmission has been canceled. I am here to help you so if you could provide more informaiton as to how you have this connected to your phone line, that would be helpful. Carrier information, system setup changes you may have made etc.

We are having problems receiving faxes but printing is fine we do not seem to have a ringtone signal

First make sure dial tone form wall is working, just plug in a hand set. If no dial tone, call phone company. If dial tone then make sure line is plugged from wall into fax port that says Line not TEL. Can you send faxes ok?

Fax wont' go through. Plugged phone jack into phone line and when I try to fax it doesn't connect. Any suggestions? Thanks

Can you receive any faxes. Run a Fax Test from the Tools menu. Is the problem with only one fax receipient? (Check the phone number and make sure they are set to receive. I have dealt with one fax receipient where the call-waiting service caught the fax call.)

Does the Fax see a dial tone? If there is no dial tone, use a single line phone (corded) to listen for a dial tone at that jack. If there is no dial tone, check the incoming service for a dial tone. (If you have no dial tone at all, contact your service provider.) Try a new phone cable (2-wire RJ-11) Try calling the number from another phone line with the single line phone attached. If the phone doesn't ring with a new cable, check your wiring and then contact your provider. Is the signal analog or digital (the all-in-one is designed for digital)?

Go back through the fax settings and set it as directed in Step 2 here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01458259&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3643612 . You need the fax error reporting setting.

Disconnect any items that are plugged into the 2-Ext port.

Try reinitializing the unit. Unplug the power cord with the unit on. Make sure that the phone cord is fully seated in the 1-Line port. Then reconnect the power cord.

Try resetting the all-in-one, this may require 2 people. With the printer on, unplug the power cord and wait at least 20 seconds. Press and hold # and 3 while plugging in the power cord. Release the buttons after the unit starts up.

If none of these steps help the unit may need service.

No dial tone pressing hook, NG and Poor line condition transmission report on sending and receiving. Confirmed good dial tone on line in and on phone on ext. Copy, display, everything else fine. I hear...

Hello,

Make sure that you have your telephone line from the wall jack plugged into the port on the fax that says "LINE" and that your telephone is plugged into EXT.

All your cables and jacks seem like they are working since your phone gets a dial tone, the onyl thing could be that the wires are mixed or the modem on the fax is broken.

Thanks,

Pat

Make sure your tel line is OK by connecting the line to a telephone first. Connect the tel line to the socket labelled LINE. If there's still no dial tone, change the line card.

Hi i cant send a fax

First thing is to ensure that you have dial tone by picking up the handset on the fax machine and listening for dial tone.If there is no handset take a standard house phone and plug it into the jack where the fax machine was inserted. If there is dial tone on the phone then I would advise you to turn the power off the fax for two minutes then power back on. If there is no dial tone on the phone line contact your vendor or local phone carrier and report NO DIAL TONE

Problem with fax

I'm no expert but, did you try touching the online or hook button on the fax to hear the dial tone? Or connect a basic home phone into the phone jack at the wall the fax was plugged into. Do you get a dial tone. If no dial tone, call the phone company. If there is a dial tone, its the fax.
