Lens problem on my dsc-w1 sony digital camera

I had the camera for a while and this problem happened before but it fixed after an hour or so by itself (idk how) and now the same thing happened again but it won't fix. The lens wont retract it keeps going back and forth when i turn it on. I try to push th lens back in but its not working. The picture is really blurry and it used to be great. I am really disapointed and i hope it does get fixed. Please help me. :]

You might not believe and I don't think that this happens with all the same cameras, but I have the same camera and what I did was connect the cable to my printer (hp psc 1315 all-in-one). After I connected it, it was working fine, but I still thought that I wouldn't be able to take pictures...But I turned it on and it worked perfectly! It's amazing! I did this 3 weeks ago to see what happened and I fix my camera without even trying to do so! The only thing that bothers me is that it keeps saying that the batteries are low, although they are recharged...but you can take pictures and do what ever you want!

The battery door does not close properly. Can it be fixed?

Probably, but the cost may be more than the camera is worth.

Sony dsc-w1 will not turn on ,its not the batteries thks jim

Hello Jim,

Did you get any error message or any activity at all when you try to turn on your camera? You mentioned it is NOT the battery, so I am assuming you already tried using fresh batteries. You can also try removing any memory card and then try turning it ON without the memory card.

If the LENS is trying to come out and then it turns off (lens error) you can try spraying compressed air into the lens area of your camera.

Please reply back if these doesn't work and give me more details.

P.S.

I am REALLY sorry for the VERY delayed reply. I have been trying to reply since 11 hours ago, but there are still bugs here on the "new" Fixya. Good thing a friend discovered a "work-around" and FINALLY I get to post my solution. =)

Lens will not retract

I have exactly the same problem and I found out that new batteries solve the problem. I also think the battery charger bundled with the W12 version is not very good. You might try (I haven't yet!) a new charger which handles new types of batteries (Ni-MH).

batteries may be low. Dont force it unless its your only option. You could strip a gear.

Sony cyber shot DSC-W1 Digital Camera

I found an online manual for your camera. Page 84 talks about the USB Mode Normal with the 4 dots underneath. It also show a troubleshooting area for this and it is on page 96. Hopefully this will get your camera working right again. Here is the link to the pdf manual. http://www.docs.sony.com/release/DSCW1.pdf

I've seen a lot of DSC-W1 cameras where the power switch/shutter button assembly goes bad. This is most likely the case.

Camera probably needs cleaning.

if you find any friction or noisy movement of lense assembly while switching on the camera, its probably fine sand particals stucked in ths lense assembly. pls do not try to operate or fix the problem as it would be needing thorough cleaning by an expert.
