After doing a quick check for that chipset I found this download on the Intel site which should cover the 9220 audio device.

I can't installed it

Windows XP should load drivers for the card automaticly, you may want to upgrade you system to SP3 if you havent already, Go in BIOS before start up and uninstall your onboard Audio driver under Onboard Periferals, click disable/turn it off, If you have an XP instulation cd you may be able to point windows to the Legacy driver.

No drivers for the sound provided by sigmatel

Here is a link to all of the drivers for that motherboard. You should also see the drivers for the audio as well. I would suggest downloading the drivers and making a backup cd when everything is working.

Dell Inspiron E1505 Audio

Hi artifax,

I have a suggestion/solution for this that I need you to try. Here it is:

first, go to add or remove programs, look for Creative/SoundBlaster and Sigmatels listed there and uninstall every one of them. Then, go to Device manager and uninstall Creative/Soundblaster/Sigmatel under sound and game controllers. reboot the system.

now download and run this,
E1505/6400 BIOS
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R158849&SystemID=INSPIRONI6400/E1505&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=10430&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=9&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=1&fileid=212350

then download and install this,
Sigmatel Audio Driver
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R171789&SystemID=INSPIRONI6400/E1505&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=8907&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=3&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=3&fileid=235761

Do not install any Creative first, then let me know if this works.

I'll be waiting for your reply.

I have no sound in my PC

BrendanG21, I had the same problem this morning. My sound actually quit in the middle of listening to music. Simply restart your computer (it may take a couple tries). If it's saying you have no audio device installed, but everything looks normal when you go into device manager, it's probably the same problem and this should work.

Running Windows XP
Dell B130 laptop
Sound devices listed under my device manager:
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC
Video Codecs

No audio device installed on my laptop

I'm not sure whether this is the exact same problem, as I was having, but mine just randomly quit while I was listening to music this morning. I got messages saying "No audio device installed", but when I went to device manager, all my audio devices said they were working properly. If this is the case with you, simply restart your computer. It may take a couple restarts, but this should work. My sound was back even before it finished shutting down.

If it helps anyone trying to get to the root of this problem, I am running XP on a Dell B130 laptop, with the following devices listed in Device Manager:
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC
Video Codecs
Hope this helps!
