The receiver is going into protect. Could be a number of reasons for it. Shorted amp, bad voltage regulators, etc. Would have to have someone look at it to determine the cause.

SOURCE: Blinking Standby

regarding the Pioneer VSX-912 blinking standby light. This is how you reset it; press the "advanced surround" and the " enter" at the same time for about 3 seconds. Make sure you press the ENTER on the reciever (its the one on top next to the small dial) If you press the "ON" instead of "ENTER" it will not work. If an error message comes on and shuts the unit down, just reset it again. This should save you some $$$$. To bad Pioneer did't put this info in the manual.

SOURCE: Denon AVR-4800 5.1Channel Standby light blinking

It's going into protect. Unhook ALL the speakers and see if it still shuts itself off. If so, then it will have to be taken in for service.

Tv will come on but shuts itself back off

Sounds like it just needs a new lamp.
The way to tell is the lights in front:
green blinking as TV reboots = bad lamp
red three blinks = door switch
red four blinks = bad fan
6 or 9 blinks = bad thermal fuse

Blinking red light.Checked all cables. I replaced Hard drive...still problem exists. Wondering if power supply could be problem

When one light from the four lights ring itself changes from green to red, it means that a general hardware failure has occurred or is imminent. Blinking of one red light with an error message like E66, E67, E68, E71, E74 or E77 means a repairable problem while the one red light blinking without error message means some critical or irrepairable problem. The problem can be avoided by restarting the Xbox 360 console but if you have not received any error message with one blinking red light then the problem is irrepairable. The console will behave the same way and you should understand that one or more of the hardware components in your console have stopped functioning due to hardware failure. If you receive an error message with one red light blinking then the problem is reparable and the system will definitely start working. It means that there is some hardware problem with the Xbox 360 console connection occurring due to the misplacing of cables in the ports. Turn off your Xbox 360 and disconnect all cables, now reconnect the cables and switch on the Xbox hope this helps.

Whenever I start playing on my xbox or playstation, the receiver will shut off (the red light is blinking around the power button). Once I hit the button, it stops and then I can turn the receiver back...

does it only shut off on high volume or a loud noise?

It's the amp tripping to protect itself.

look out for a shorting speaker wire or faulty speaker etc. disconnect each in turn to find out which

I have a Denon receiver, had it for a couple years now and has worked perfectly. Last week I was watching a movie and all of a sudden my receiver shut off and it blinked a red ring of death. I let it rest...

Did you recently move any speakers around or any items near the speaker wire connections?
It sounds like you may have a speaker wire shorting which is causing the receiver to go into "auto protect" mode. Check all of the speaker wire connections on the back of the receiver and at all of the speakers to make sure the wires are not touching or close enough to possibly touch.
