Just experienced this on my Photosmart 5514. The problem turned out to be the ink pump inside which primes the nozzles, there is a hose for the colour head and one for the black. The black side was clogged with old semi-dry ink. After removing the hose from the pump, and soaking it in hot water for about 15 minutes I was able to squeeze out the old ink, now it works like new.

How did you get to the tube? Any other machine I have done this to, they were easily accessible by a back panel. Do I have to take off the top of the machine?

Yes, you have to take the top off. There is a sled that slides under where the print head parks on the right front of the printer, and from that there are 4 rubber tubes in one, these all connect to a while piece of plastic where two of them join to the clear tubes going to the pump. To clean the clear tube you have to remove the pump and the series of gears it's connected to, then you can twist open the pump and remove the clogged tube (the tube is all one piece). Make sure you remember the orientation of the tube inside the pump, and which end coming out of the pump goes where!

SOURCE: my hp 6500 won't print black. I've changed the cartridge twice. No result. Can the ink not be getting to the printer head?

Unplug the printer for at least overnight. I have 3 of these printers and all 3 have done this. All 3 came back after being unplugged for a long period.
Personally, I think a class action suit might be in order.

SOURCE: hp 2610 will not print black even with new cartridge. HELP

Try cleaning the gold contacts on cart first, with distilled water. Let dry and try again.
If not, try this one
1.Try placing sheet of black text on copy board, and run many copies black only. I ran 25x12 times still no black. Run head clean after about each 50 sheets. Persevered and finally BLACK ink OK

SOURCE: hp photosmart 8050 won`t print black even though

Hi there! If you haven`t used the printer in 2-3 months the black ink cartridge has gona dry.Wich means the printer is seeing full ink but the ink isn`t actually coming out from the ink head.Take a peace of clean cloth or cotton and clear the bottom part of the ink head(be verry carfully while cleaning it cuz you may dmg the head.If that doesn`t help just go and buy a new ink cartridge and it will solve your problem.

I Need to ask how do I change my font larger I have a H P Photosmart 5510

The printer prints out what it sees in your document. You need to resize the font in your document, which the printer will then see and print.

Quicken 2008 won't print anything in reports in black

You need to replace the Black cartridge, as it appears the colour one is fine. Look in the printer options on your PC for a display of ink levels, and you'll probably find the black down to zero. If you've used generic cartridges, not genuine HP, you may find the printer can't actually read the ink levels.

My hp photosmart 5514 won't print. I put in new ink-black and color- and it goes through the motions, but the page is empty

I just had this exact problem on my HP 5514. Black won't print after running out of black ink. New cartridge no good.
I tried everything-no good. I suspected the pinholes in the printhead were clogged with dried ink because I didn't change cartridge in time.
The fix that worked perfectly was when I hacksaw top off old black cartridge & removed all foam wicks so now I had a funnel(can see clear thru). I installed the cartridge & filled it with alcohol, printed page & did head clean; then printed few more pages. Problem cleared almost immediately. I then soaked up extra alcohol inside cartridge with paper towel. Removed modified cartridge & installed good one. I guess this could be done for colors as well. I don't know if this is a proper procedure, but it sure worked well for me.

I have Hp Photosmart 309g - it is 2 yrs old. I get alignment failure & have tried all the resolutions on the support website. First Blue didn't print then after pulling the power out everything...

Yes that is unfortunately true, if it is out of warranty they won't be able to replace the printer. However, it can be traded for upgrade for an HP factory reconditioned printer for a lesser cost.
