I got a Coby MP3 player a few months ago, and managed to install the software and put music on it with no problems. This morning I plugged it in to the USB port and left it to charge with the laptop open all afternoon. Tonight, I came back hoping to add some music to it, but when I oped Coby Media Manager, it is telling me the device is not plugged in. I have unplugged it and replugged it, unplugged it and rebooted the computer, plugged it into different USB ports, but nothing changes. It charged fully, so I know the USB cord is working. And I plugged in my camera, and that worked fine, so I know the USB port is working. So now I'm at a loss. If anyone can help, I could really appreciate it!
Hi. Please confirm that the device shows up under 'Computer' as a Removable Disk drive (disregard CMM) for the time being. If it doesn't and it still does not recognize, most like it is indeed the cable. Yes, the cable could function other devices but that usually is the issue, it doesnt give a good enough connect to our MP3 players. Also, laptops have an option to disable the USB power to conserve battery, so that also seems to interfere.

After some time of messing with my daughter's--I desolderd the battery to clear the player--but doing that ,the player now show's up in windows everytime I plug it in. So I would say faulty battery.(Inside player)

could be one of two possibilities. one something is wrong the usb wire or two, the player is locked. mine did the same thing when i first got it. i unlocked it and it worked

dont bother replacing the battery on your own or through a 3rd party because it most likely is the firm ware and apple will charge you a flat fee regardless of the issue. i have the same issue with my ipod, except that it would hold a charge for days before i tried to update it and had my computer die before it finished. now it tries to boot up over and over.

The actual MP3 player should display a USB connection on the screen, if not, I would say its a connection issue (bad USB cable), my guess is your using a laptop, a lot of laptops disable their USB power options, you probably need to re-enable your USB ports, if desktop, it should show a USB connection on MP3, if not, battery or cable issue.
