Hi Cassandra. The problem mus be related to excessive current being drawn, either in the disc loading motor, or the sled motor. After closing the tray, the system loads one disc. This is done by lifting up the player mechanism. This action is done by a motor and gearwork. When this mechnism is blocked f.i. or the motor driving it draws too much current, this might cause the "power down." In case the disc is loaded,
the sled motor makes the laserunit travel fully inwards (center of the disc). This motor can also draw too much current. Generally, there are
problems with these motors, due to collector contamination. (They run a very low rpm for he tracking, that there is no self cleaning effect on the collector )
Another reason wich is commonly seen in electronic apparatus are
faults in the power supply itself. Mostly due to dried out electrolytic capacitors. Due to this, the power supply cannot deliver enough current when needed. Referring back to the power consumption which occurs at some points (movements like loading, reading etc.), it is likely that the power units shuts itself down.
Slightly warming up the (switching) pwr. supply by means of a hair-
dryer, improves it's function. So typical failures due to poor condition of the power supply can be detected in this way. Replacing (most of the)
electrolytic capacitors cures the fault. When you have an oscilloscope
you can find out precisely which capacitors or bad. It can be in the +5, +12,-12 V section as these are the most common ouput voltages.
It may be a mechanical or optical detection of the disc being inserted. The unit need to be seen by a Technician to determine what is wrong with the unit. Lens cleaning is not the first action I would take to resolve this.
Possible failure of the drivve unit or the loading mechanism of the CD unit. It can also be due to failure of the belt in the drive.
Itt is important that the CD unit is opened to check on the mechanism to see if there is a jamming of the drive, a failure of the motor or loading motor drive IC.
It is possible that the mechanism is jammed and so there is no loading of the carriage to the system. when the tracks are selected please try and hear if there is noise of the loading of the CD. If not there is a failure of the drive, failure of the loading section both of which needs a mechanical check within.
Please also have the optical head cleaned.
pls get he cdrom sevice as the laser which reads the cd might have gone dusty due to dust....................................get it serviced ...........................Sameeraryan
This indicates a mechanical error... ie: the cd is jammed, the drive mechanism has become seized, if this a multiple CD changer, it's possible the CDs in the cartridge were inserted on a slight angle and the drive mechanism can't work with that.
If you're mechanically apt, consider removing the cover of the CD changer and releasing the mechanism by hand. If the unit is still under warantee or if you're not comfortable doing these things, repair might be your best option.
