Did you find a fix to this problem? My dp-03 is giving the same error message and ALL my searching has led me to your posts.
Seems you haven't had a response. An authorized TASCAM repair center says it would be cheaper to buy a new one than have it repaired, but that seems NON-sensical to me.
How can An operating system error fix cost more than all the hardware in the unit?
TASCAM is about to lose MANY points with me, a PortaStudio user since the mid 1980's.
I purchased this unit as a close out, as is, and it has NEVER functioned since purchase.
Carol, please, PLEASE, tell me you found a fix.

Refer to your manual (1st) It appears that "maybe" your unit may be
locked - until you get through the menus - and type/press EXIT.
If you don't have a red indicator light - lit. Turn off power switch (rear)
and unplug unit for 1 minute. Plug in - then turn on switch (rear)....if
still no red indicator light....you'll need either Tascam or Samsung
tech to service your unit. Good Luck.

According to the user manual for the device, on page 81, it reads:

If any of these errors occur, turn the the unit power OFF and restart it.
If these error message continue to appear, please contact a TASCAM Service Center.

Looks like your unit may require servicing at an authorized Tascam service center.

Hi this is the only solution for your query jut do that
i) If these error occur, turn the DR-1 power OFF and restart the unit. If the error message continues to appear, contact a TEAC Repair Center
other than that no solution we have so far.

I turned off the unit, then while holding down rew and record buttons at same time, turned on unit. I don't know why, but it worked.

This is basically an error message which indicates that the Tascam timed out while waiting for the drive to spin up. Usually an issue with the drive motor not getting the correct amount of power.

Primary suspect is usually the power adapter.

I had the same problem. I sent it back to my place of purchase and they sent it to an authorised Tascam repairer. Unfortunately they sent it back twice saying it was fixed when it wasn't. They then decided it needed a ne main board which was going to cost $800 AUS, excluding any labour to install it. In the end I got angry and went straight to the TASCAM distributor and told them my problem and that it was unnaceptable that such an expensive unit needs a new main board in such a short space of time. To my surprise they came back and agreed to replce the main board for fee and the service repair centre did not charge me either. DON'T pay for this. It is obviously some problem with the unit. RING TASCAM in your area or the authorised distributor.

Here's a link to a forum where someone else encountered the same error. Seems it was due to running out of disc space in that instance.
