I got this a least 10 years ago and I noticed this high pitched sound the first day I played it. When I adjust the tone button it doesn't go away and the result is I can't turn up the volume to high..I was wondering if the needle had something to do with the quality of the sound and the tone. Thank you debbie
Not at all in this case. You either have a loose wire to connections to the cartridge, which can be fixed by hand. Just push the wires on to the cartridge. Or you have a fault in the power supply of the deck. Most likely a mains filter capacitor that is letting the 50hz mains hum in.
The hum will either be caused by a poor earth connection or a power supply problem. The stylus would not cause any hum at all.

You need a phono preamp for it to work correctly. See this link:

before you try doing all this work to it you should just check your software. Im guessing that your using scratch live. If you are then chances are that your pitch lock might not be on, on whichever deck you have the problems with. try that first before u waist money trying to fix it.
