I triied many data recovery options but later, i noticed a continuous clicking sound. i looked up in youtube and found that the needle (reader) inside the external hard disk has to touch the disk. i opened the drive and found it was NOT. so i moved it into a closer postition. but now, the needle is deflecting away whenever i connect to the pc. so is there a chance that i can remove the disk- the shiny thing inside the hard disk and recover the data by any means?
Hey, friend! Have restored your external hard drive data back yet? In fact, not too long ago, I had ever encountered USB hard disk file loss problems and tried related data recovery software to take my remained drive information back with success.
If you do have no success with other software, you may try my found one here:
Restore lost file back form external hard drive
If this software also makes no difference, remember to ask some data recovery experts for help.
Also make drive data backups well from now on.
See first this clicking sound is not good in terms of hard drive failure as continuous clicking is one of the symptom of hard drive failure.
Secondly you have tried to do something with the hard drive by your own that you should not as it is always recommended that you should not open your hard drive in any open environment except Class 100 Clean Room Labs that is only available with Professional Data Recovery Company.
This is recommended because opening the hard drive in an open environment can damage your hard drive severely thus it reduces the chances of successful data recovery from the hard drive.
Now if your data is really very important then i would suggest you to take help from a professional data recovery company.

Hi there,
my best bet is to take the hard drive out the case and just check to make sure its in tack,
take the case of the hard drive and push down on the spindal, if it clicks then u have just fixed your problem,
if not then buy a new case.. case only from ebay with a fan inside, there about £10 to buy, and put it in that,
also now you have formatted it you have proberly knocked out the partition thats why its not showing up, try plugging it into your motherboard and creating a partion that way

Hi Welcome to Fixyah,
If that device has a warranty all you have to do is to get back to your reseller and from your reseller ask them to change the enclosure, I suspect that the enclosure is the problem and not the hardisk.

You connected it to a "USB 1.1" socket in your computer, which is only 1/40 of the speed of a "USB 2.0" socket (if your computer has any such USB sockets). If you don't have any USB 2.0 ports, buy a PCI add-in card to add some ports to your computer.
