How to wash First Years bassinet

I have a First Years 3 in 1 bassinet andI can not figure out how to remove the cover of the bassinet to be able to wash it.

  • Anonymous Apr 14, 2009

what did you end up doing? I am selling my bassinet and I could take the outer cover off the actual bassinet (hopefully to get it back on!) but the little hood covering looked impossible to remove and get back on so I was wondering how to clean it!
    Thanks!

I got this second hand and it had a ton of icky little stains on it. I cannot believe a baby bassinet was made without a removable cover!
I sprayed Shout on the stains and soaked it in the tub with HOT water with 2 cups vinegar and 1/2 cup of Borax washing powder (baking soda works well too) I scrubbed the fabric w/ a soft brush and swooshed the loose fabric around in the water. Then I rinsed it in hot water and more vinegar to remove any soaps. Then I towel dried the fabric and set it up in the tub w/a fan on it ( I cannot leave it outside as I have 2 outdoor kitties) I did this at the recommendation of the nice woman who runs our local dry cleaner. It turned out clean and bright and totally stain free! You may want to wrap the handle in Saran Wrap and of course DO NOT submerge it completely. I did this and the light/music feature was dry and still works.

Unfortunately the manufacturer says that it is surface wash only - the cover is not meant to ever be removed. (Check out the original owner manual pdf here - page 12 gives cleaning "instructions": http://content.learningcurve.com/wps/wcm/connect/fd902d8049670b5da9b6ab3efa0f6b5d/3073.pdf?MOD=AJPERES). How dumb, huh? An infant bassinet with tons of fabric that grows dusty and occasionally spit up on, etc., and you can't remove and wash it? I have the same bassinet and the same problem - I'm going to try to surface wash some areas that need it tonight... We'll see what happens!

Dont know how to remove the bedding from the bassinet to wash

Which part of the bedding is soiled and needs to be washed?

There should be a flat sheet that covers the mattress pad, an optional top sheet, a comforter, a dust ruffle, pillow sham and a decorative cover for the hooded area.

Remove the comforter & top sheet & set them aside. Pick up the mattress inside the bassinet, remove the flat sheet on it and put that with the other items to wash. Leave the mattress pad out, and you should be able to see the dust ruffle. The dust ruffle goes under the mattress pad and hangs like a skirt on the bottom of the bassinet. Pick up the dust ruffle and untie any ribbons that might be used to anchor it on the sides or bottom area. Depending on the bedding set you bought or are using with the bassinett, the piece that goes around the hood area might have elastic to keep it snug, or if you are using the default that came the model that is sold in California, US - its not really removeable without a lot of trouble and other problems - (I would suggest leaving it on unless its REALLY soiled).

Good luck!

How do you remove the covering from the top of the bassinet in order to wash

Easy, at the top of the bassinet there are two plastic pieces; one on each end.... On the end that has the music volume and on/off switch there is a cover with a small screw holding it on, remove the screw and take the cover off. Next remove the two bottom batteries and you will see a Philips screw inside remove that.
Now on the other side facing out wards there should be another large Philips screw, remove it and the bassinet basket will come out.

Cleaning eddie bauer bassinet

First take off the battery cover ( your will need a screw driver). Once you do that take out the batteries and you will see a big screw, unscrew that and take out the screw. You will repeat the same thing on the other side of the bassinet, but you access the screw right on the outside (not like through the battery compartment with the other side). Once both of those screws are removed push back the plastic clip on the inside holder and the bassinet will lift right off. Once the bassinet is off you can take the cover right off. It says to hand wash with cold water and line dry. Hope this helps

Bedding

I got this bassinet 2nd hand. I can tell you that I did wash the whole set. You have to take the screws out at either end to remove the cover (one screw is behind the batteries in the music box). I removed the plastic parts (the slits are closed with velcro for the flat plastic panels so the plastic simply slides out). The hoops were a little more difficult but since it is an overlap closing and the hoops are flexible, you can remove them. Simply wash in cold water and hang to dry. When its dry, you can put the plastic slides and hoops back in the same way you took them out. Came out fine.
