You may need to use the S-video cable for video. Make sure video mirroring is disabled on the powerbook. Also, make the external monitor the primary display by dragging the menu bar to it in Displays preferences (Mac OS X) or the Monitors control panel (Mac OS 8 and 9).

SOURCE: Trying to hook my home

Connect VGA (D-sub 15 pin) cable from PC to TV (RGB PC) input jack. Connect audio cable from PC to TV. Set screen resolution on PC to be compatible with TV, such as 800 X 600 or 1024 X 768 etc. Select on the TV, the PC INPUT using the TV remote when ready to use as monitor.

Under PICTURE on the TV select SCREEN (RGB-PC). You can AUTO-CONFIG or you can set resolution manually to the same you set PC to. Other adjustments can be done here as well to get optimum picture on TV from PC.

Ive connected my vga to vga cable from my desktop pc to the rgb pc input on my lcd tv but it shows no picture. it shows windows loading but wont show my password entry or desktop page

Because your laptop needs it's display setting changing so your second monitor is active.
While on your desktop, right click once and a box will appear, choose "properties" at the bottom.
There you will see another box, choose the "settings" tab at the top right and this will show your display options.
Right click on the number two box and "attach" it.
You may also have to change the size of the display to fit your tv.
Hope this helps

We want to hook laptop to tv and here is the number lc-26sh20q

Hi Donna.
Do you have an HDMI plug on your lap top?
If so, then buy one and connect it to your pc and tv. Change the tv's input so it is on HDMI and change the laptops display settings to projector.
(If it's windows 7) or another display setting that will display on both your TV and your lap top screens.

Hope that helps. Let me know..

When you have them all connected, press the Fn key and while holding that down, press the F5 key, this will toggle the video output through all the choices. Give it a little bit of time, the vga graphics chip may need a few to send the signal to a larger display such as the tv.

Fn F5 not working

You have to configure the settings for the external display (TV) in windows.(assuming that's your OS)
Go to control panel >display >properties >advanced and make sure the TV is selected and active as secondary display.

Verify that you get a picture on the TV when doing this, if you do - you're all set.
Restart the computer and the problem should be fixed.

Trying to connect Inspiron 6000 to TV

If there is no display on your TV, HDTV, or Projector, please make sure that all of your connections are set up properly and that you have enabled the display in the Catalyst Control Center. The connectors that you will be using would be Svideo for TVOUT, DVI-to-HDTV (Component video), VGA-to-HDTV (Component video) for HDTV, and DVI, VGA, or Svideo for the projector.
737-22474-1.jpg Here are the steps to properly setup and enable TV, HDTV, or Projector:
  • Turn off your PC and your TV, HDTV, or Projector.
  • Ensure that your card was installed correctly, as per the Getting Started Guide.
  • Determine if your TV, HDTV, or Projector has a S-Video (for TV), YPbPr for (HDTV), or VGA/DVI for Projector.
  • Looking at the back of your PC, locate the needed connector or the supplied adapter cable; attach one end of the cable to your graphics card and the other to your second display.
  • Turn on your second display then your PC.
If you are connecting an HDTV to your video card, please Click here for detailed instructions on how to set it up correctly.
Starting Windows with TV or Projector Display Enabled The TV screen may become scrambled during the initial Windows® logo display. This is only a temporary effect and your screen will be restored within a few seconds. During start up, your RADEON will go through a sequence of mode settings, during which your TV display will remain blank. This process takes only a few seconds and helps program the TV display.
  • To enable the second Display
  • Right-click anywhere on your desktop
  • Click Catalyst Control center
  • View
  • Advanced view
  • Display manager
  • Detect Displays
  • You should have the second display picture under “Attached displays currently disabled
  • Drag it to the box on top of it
  • Apply
  • OK
If for any reason the second display does not get detected, please do the following:
  • Open the CATALYST CONTROL CENTER
  • Go to Display options
  • Check “Force TV detection” *
  • Apply
  • OK
* Force TV: Allows you to force TV detection if the ATI driver does not automatically detect TV-out connected to the graphics accelerator.
Possible issues:
In case the users display does not natively support HDTV display timings in the EDID, you can add standard HDTV modes so that the usual HDTV resolutions (720p, 1080i, 1080p) are listed in the Display Manager resolutions. You can also create custom HDTV timings to solve any kind of over-scan options (for cases when the windows desktop appears to not fit on the HDTV screen, and the outside boarder is cut off).
For more information on connecting your second display to your Video card, including supported output device combinations, please refer to your user’s manual.
