Yamaha CDR-D651 2-Disc CD Recorder Logo

Hi, I have a Yamaha CDR-D651 CD recorder. When I insert a disc into tray 2 to record it keeps showing the CHECK DISC error. I have tried various brand new discs, all audio recordable, but still no joy. The same tray will play discs I have recorded before & standard pre-recorded CD's, but it just won't do anything with a recordable disc. Is it reparable, or throw it away? Thanks Andy

    Hi ooopsy_daisy,

I am only trying to use Maxell CD-R XL-II 80 Music discs because I have used these before with no problems.

    Thanks for the help,

    Hi again,

Ok, I'll be going out shortly to see if I can get a CD/DVD cleaner.

I'll give that a try first & try a +R disc if that fails, then I'll let you know the outcome?

    Thanks again

    Andy.

    HI Andy,

Well I would try to clean the machine with a CD cleaner disk and if it still doesnt help maybe you should just try a +R disk and see what happens.

    HI Andy,

Are you trying both CD-R and +R disks? And does your yamaha record both formats?

Hi JD, Thanks for your response and your kind offer. I have however found a supplier on ebay who sells the Maxell cdr-80XLII Music Discs, I just purchased 500 so I know you can get them. These have always been fine before, I just think the problem I have is the machine, it has always been temperamental and with age is just getting more difficult! I will use the CD's that work in the Yamaha & the ones that wont work I'll have to use in the computer which accepts anything I throw at it. lol
Let me know if you need a link to the supplier on ebay & thanks for your post.

    Cheers

    Andy

I have been able to find 10-15 blank cds that will accomodate your recorder. They are special disc that are not being manufactured any more that were labled for music/audio use. I had to buy around 50 cds to find the some that worked from people that had old ones on ebay but eventually landed some. I would be willing to sell a couple to get you started until we can find a supplier,. There has to be someone, some where who has them. Maybe someone overseas that has them.

My Yamaha CDR D651 appears to dislike new 50x maxell CD-r discs saying not audio. Works fine with 12x discs. What's wrong? Rowan

you probably have regular cd-r disks that cannot be recorded on in this unit. You can only use disks marked "DIGITAL AUDIO" for recording

May be duplicate... I have 2 Denon cdr-w1500 recorders. They both started the same problem at the same time. I just cleaned them with q-tips and canned air (no q-tip fibers were left inside the units). ...

continuest uses of ant cd player or recorder will damage the eye. try 2 leave it upside down 4 a day 2 see if there is any dry spots in the eye. if not restart the cd player all day until it reboots
with a cd any kind. if unit is broken time for a dvd ,cd recorder/player. good luck buddy

I have the Denon CDR-W1500 recorder and the recording side no longer functions. It doesn't have that many hours of use. The tray doesn't recognize a blank cd but both sides will playback discs. Your help...

Your original post said it was blank discs that didn't work.

Now it's ALL discs including pre-recorderd ones. THAT changes things considerably.

Is it audibly rotating the disc once it's loaded?

Cd not recording

Be sure to "finalize" the recorded cd before use in another cd player. Another thing is there are always a few bad discs in a spindle of blank discs... And sometimes you will get "check disc" or "bad disc" when a blank disc is inserted. I would be sure to use blank discs for audio use, not computer use, with your Yamaha.

Problem with analog recording on Yamaha CDR D651

Your assessment that it duplicates CD's internally fits with an analog-only failure mode. Let's make sure the signal is getting past your RCA jacks on the deck...

Put the deck in a Rec/Standby mode and make sure an analog source registers adequate volume on the meters. If it's good there and doesn't change with cable swapping between the input channels, you're right, the problem is internal. Maybe the volume potentiometer itself has developed a dead spot. Manually rotate it throughout its range many times to wipe it clean.

If you have an external optical digital source use it to check the meters in digital recording mode to be sure they're about even. The same knob affects analog and digital levels.

If you have the deck connected via the traditional Tape Monitor circuit in a receiver you should be able to tell by ear if the one channel is dead or too low. This puts all of the recording circuitry including the volume knob in line with your receiver.

Tray B of my RCA CD Burner does not recognize any CDs

Are you using the correct disc type??

The manual states that only discs that are labeled:

"Compact Digital Audio Disc Recordable" (Audio CDR)

*or*

"Compact Digital Audio Disc Rewritable" (Audio CD-RW) can be used.

The popular discs labeled "Compact Recordable" and Compact Disc "Rewritable" are for use in computers, and can NOT be used on the recorder.

Page 16 of the manual shows the graphic of the logos detailed above. The manual can be downloaded for free below:

Disc won't initialize or record, keeps saying no disc or opc erro

I suggest you try cleaning the lens...

If the wrong disc was inserted, say a music disc, there would surely be a message to that effect. If no such message is displayed I would guess the unit is faulty.

Cdr s1000 help

Hi Rick

The unit has stopped reading discs. I suggest taking the lid off and cleaning the laser lens with a cotton bud with a little Windex , then give it a gentle polish to be sure no residue smearing is left. If that does not fix it, check to see what actually happens when you load a disc. Does the transport fully engage and clamp the disc correct into the chucking assembly. Let me know how you got on:)

regards
Graeme
