Need to Install a Supco 3 n 1 start capacitor

Hi I need to install a Supco 3 n 1 start capacitor and have a few questions. I have a Kenmore side by side fridge. Model # 106.53662300. My first question is How do I know if the rco810 is right for this fridge and not the rco410. I'm not sure how to tell what the HP of the compressor is (it doesn't say on it). Second, the rco810 comes with 5 wires. I understand the 1st 3 color coded ones go to start, run and common terminals. But, what about the 2 line wires? Do I need to connect them to anything? I found 3 other wires on the back of the unit - see pictures at:[email protected]/ Two of them are white and connected and one is red. I included photos of what they connect to. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

    Thanks Peyton,

I decided to follow your advice and get the OEM part. I read some other negative reviews of the 3 n 1 so I'll install the OEM as soon as I can get it. Thanks brother,

3 in 1 starters like the supco that you have pictured can and will cause premature failure of your compressor. newer compressors are not designed to handle the start up current the 3-n-1 provides. I reccomend replaing wiht an original oem part the part number is 8201786. If you still want to use the hard start use the 410 model obviously hook up the red white and blak wires to the compressor the 2 left over leads will connect to the 2 original wires that come in to the compressor I beleive they are red and white. polarity does not matter. good luck Peyton

With the SUPCO 410, you have 5 wires, white, red, and black going to the three terminal hook-ups of the compressor! This leaves 2 black wires! Questions, where do these hook-up, how does the thermostat patch in without sending all power to run thru thermostat and does the in-coming neutral hook-up to the white wire going into the compressor?

Emerson model#CR519B. The unit just stopped working. If plugged in a motor runs for about 8 seconds and clicks off; about a minute later it repeats. Help

I had the same problem with a small wine cooler. It happened to me twice in 6 years. Both times I had to replace the starter relay.

I couldn't find any repair facilities willing to work on these small wine coolers or refrigerators, probably because the bill would be more than the used fridge is worth. If you feel confident around a volt/ohm meter and electricity, you could learn how to test this and maybe fix it yourself.

You shouldn't do any of this if you aren't familiar with using a Volt/Ohm meter and can safely and confidently work around electricity.:

  1. Unplug the fridge
  2. I first tested the compressor with an Ohm Meter (see how with youtube video below or by reading how at It was good, but it kept starting and stopping within a few seconds.
  3. Basically my starter capacitor/relay wasn't working. It supplies temporary starting voltage to the starter relay in the compressor, then cuts off to allow the motor to run.
  4. I bought a Supco 3-in-1 on Amazon for less than $13 and hooked it up according to the supplied instructions. It lasted about 3 years.
Of course, the factory recommended repair is to buy the original replacement relay, but it will be more costly and harder to find.

I bought a Supco 3 in 1 Hard Start relay sized for the HP on my compressor. Mine was the Supco RCO810 (see link below).

NOTE: Before I replaced the starter relay and overload protection with a Supco 3 in 1, I learned how to test the compressor with a Volt/Ohm meter. If you don't have a meter, you can buy them online or inexpensive to free with a coupon at Harbor Freight.

Hooking up a supco 3n1 in a samsung rs2530bbp?

I would avoid even using this device. there is a good possibility it will burn out your compressor. Most compressors have a run capacitor tat improves the power use and if it is not in the circuit the compressor can be damaged. I advise using the correct start device for this unit.

How to wire in new hard start

It's very simple to install a 3N1 Supco Hard Start Relay, Some refrigerators have a run capacitor located on compressor or mounted nearby. It will be important that you use the run capacitor in with the 3N1 Hard Start. Here is a Photo of the=> URCO810_3_N_1
The instructions come with the 3N1 Hard Start Relay. Can you please post the model number of your refrigerator here so I can look up a wiring diagram? Look around the fresh food section door frame for your model number. I do need to know so we can get the right run capacitor in the 3N1 hard start circuit, Thanks Sea Breeze

sounds like you have a unit that may have bit the big one... there is one more alternative if your willing to give it a try.. the sale a 3-n-1 start assist that goes on the unit.. it has the capacitor and relay built into device and in a sense is a hard start for a froze compressor ... its last resort and i have seen some work for years after installation and others within a day back to same originally results needing a new compressor ... they are easy to install and actually have a diagram on them... you will have 2 power wires that just wire into the current power wires... supco 3-n-1 is one brand to try.. whereever you got the relays should have these devices... again its last resort but may save you several hundred dollars right now... good luck

you can replace the relay with a 3 in 1 made by supco. i generally just use a supco 0410.

it is a start relay, overload, and start capacitor all in one. works great for residential systems.
