The gears on my samsung scx-4100 laser printer are turning but the gears turning the roller in the cartridge will not turn. Are these gears supposed to turn freely when the cartridge is out of the machine or is there a contact or release that is supposed to free the roller to turn when inserted? The gears just grind when I insert the cartridge.

    I have the same problem, I've and a removed the Fuser Assembly and noted there is some worn on a plastic case by the gear side, actually the gear itselft was grinding it, some how the turning force was pushing the fuser sleeve to right side disengaging the fuser gear with drive gear and wearing the drive gear teeth (Fuser gear seems to be harder). But can't locate the drive gear for replacement. Any ideas?

Neet to change the drive gear.

Samsung Printer SCX-4100 LSU Error
Laser Scanner Unit or LSU is what writes to the surface of the drum. The glass above the cartridge in the machine may be dirty. The mirror motor in the LSU could be bad or needs to be cleaned to spin better. The Laser diode may be faulty.

This is not a user-serviceable issue. You will need to contact Samsung for service. You can do it online via Samsung website or contact the vendor to see who will they appoint to service the printer to, especially if it is still under warranty.

Put cartridge inside correctly and press lower inside again.

if not solved

there are loose catridge connection, check or replace cartridge (the connection at right side in the cartridge)

My SCX-4100 prints a blotchy stripe down the middle of each page
check the lsu out mirror (top of the cartridge in the machine.) if it is clean go for a cartridge or pray god to shoe the way.

Samsung scx 4100 cleaning the roller
one way to clean those rollers is to take the printer apart. this would provide you with enough room to fix it and clean it.

however, if the suggestion of taking it apart does not sound good, you can still actually have that cleaned while it is turned on. as what you mentioned, you are asking how would it turn while cleaning it. i suggest that you try using the qtip and tune the printer to turned on. so that you can actually see what your doing with the roller.

Printer prints lightly after changing a cartridge
i guess you have problem with the poor quality ink.
faced same problem.
i re-filled with best ink in the market and the problem was gone..
