Sounds like a defective T-con board. Worst case is your Panel, but I don't think so.

46in Vizio LCD HDTV distorted black picture when tv is turned on

Hi There are three things that can cause this problem. Your lcd screen, t-con board or the signal board. Most likelly in your case since you say it's only half the screen it's going to be your t-con board. You can try removing it and cleaning all the contacts and replacing it see if that helps. If that doesn't help then replace it. If that does not solve it then it's going to be your screen.

I have a Sanyo 46 inch flat screen hdtv purchased from walmart aug. 31rst, 2008. Sure enough, 13 months later my tv is having picture problems and getting worse. It started having portions of the screen...

I have the same problem, my television is faded black on the left side with lines on the left top side. I have had the 46 inch unit for 1 year and 7 months. I am planning to write a demand letter to Sanyo and then taking them to small claims court woth evidence that this is a common problem with their units that they know about and is not trying to remedy. Also the Attorney general in Texas should have an interest in them (Walmart and Sanyo) selling these defective proucts in the state.
