I have an Asus Eee PC laptop running on XP.. When I start it up everything is fine, until it comes to the loading screen (with a loading bar with windows above it) the loading bar freezes for a moment then continues. Then the whole loading screen disappears and the screen goes black and does nothing else. (Trust me I've waited for a LONG time to see if anything would happen). I have searched many forums looking for a solution but I found nothing :(! This needs to be fixed asap as I have LOTS of school work to do!! Please help!!! Thanks!

Have you tried pressing F8 after the boot screen and choosing safe mode? See if it will boot into safe mode and go from there.

SOURCE: Blank/Black Screen Asus PC 4G

When you first turn on the computer, start tapping the F8 key to bring up the safe mode screen. You have a very short window in which to press the F8 key before XP loads, so it is possible to miss it. If this happens, just restart it and try it again. Once you are on the safe mode screen, select the enable VGA mode. This will boot your computer to a default 640 x 480 resolution so you can change it back to normal.

Thanks and please don't forget to give this solution a fixya rating.

SOURCE: My Acer laptop will not load.

Try this, Acer told me to do this and it worked.

The other way before Vista starts up is to tap ALT + F10 (at the same time repeatedly) when the computer is first switched on.. The window of opportunity is very small, so this may take a few attempts

Once you have tapped both the ALT and F10 repeatedly, you may see a screen showing:

“Edit Boot options for Microsoft Windows Vista”

If you see this, unfortunately, you have missed the window of opportunity, and you need to restart, and try again.

If you see this:
“Edit Boot options for Windows Setup” OR “Edit Boot options for Acer eRecovery”

Then it indicates that you have tapped the ALT + F10 correctly, and all you now need to do is press “Enter” and the Recovery program should load on your screen after a short pause..

In some cases, you may need to remove the battery (for notebooks only) and run the machine directly from the mains.

The Disk2Disk recovery feature allows you to recover the system without recovery CDs.

This will return your system to factory settings and will delete everything stored on the machine.
If possible we strongly advise backing up anything important on your machine before starting the recovery process.

2 problems, your using a netbook that doesnt have an optical drive (cd/dvd) and you need a windows cd.
I dont think there is anything you can do until you call your retailer and request a copy of windows cd.
After that you can do a windows repair. Use the link below to see you options for accessing the cd once you have it.

Its an asus pc 1018series need to re boot how can i perform it

Your asus netbook should have come with a White restore dvd. You will need an external dvd drive to use it.
Just put it in and it will boot to the disk and begin the restore process. Follow the instructions and you should do fine.
If it didn't come with a restore disk, You can Load XP or windows 7 from new media. Every driver you will need is provided at asus' website. You will need to load the xp version of the touchpad utility, as well as the chipset and acpi drivers, even if you choose to load windows 7.
I'm using I Eee PC 1000HE with 2 gig of ram and a single core Intel Atom n280 processor, and it runs windows 7 just fine. If you need more help, reply, and I will help as muh as I can.

Sounds like you have a virus. Until you get it going again or remove the hard drive and run a good anti virus programme to check and clear the problems, try F9 at boot up.

Hi there, I had and have the same problem since I bought. It went to Asus to repair and 1º time, 1 month later, they said it was a fault in the camera, and replaced it. Bah!! the 2º, 3 month later, it was the OS and reinstall it the XP. Bah!! bullS" the 3º time they update the BIOS which worked until now, but the reality is that it was just a lucky, it is for sure the BIOS or chipset problem. Mine occurs when I am running on battery and with the WIFI and Bluetooth on and the battery runs out, either the XP tries to hibernate or suspend mode and after that it show the same problem as you describe. - I know it does help you but it might give more hints for who understands.

Display resolution goes from 1024x600 to 800x600 at start up.

try reinstalling the drivers for the onboard graphics and for the monitor. Might be the monitor is not supporting the default resolution.
