eject the disk and if it it empty just open the cd door. with the lense to the left and the door on the top. look into the device. You will see to the left side a metal platform that houses the dvd laser. take and push the platform all the way to the left. The platform fails to retract once you do this you should be able to use a disk like normal provide you have a dvd-r disk.

Possible that when the camcorder is switched the ZOOM STRUCK PAD makes the camera to zoom in. So it is best to remove the main panel and check the ZOOM IN/OUT. If the buttons have jammed release or use glue if the pad is broken/jammed.
Also check the switch if dirty and shorted or if the switch is faulty and short.
releasing this must solve the issue . The other option is to just cut off the connection to the ZOOM motor and fix the settings to the mid point , if there are faults in the main board/ processor /driver and might require a board change.
