Question about Mitsubishi WS-55819 55" Rear Projection Television
TV turns on and operates fine for about 10 minutes, then the picture jumps to a "bow" (taller on the right and left edges than in the center section) and the red and blue colors diverge out. When I try to manually correct the divergence, the "lines" that need to be centered seem to already be centered since they are located in teh center of the screen (i.e. not at the "bowed" edges). It sounds like others have somewhat similar problems and it is a soldered connection on the divergence IC (whatever that is). I am a pretty handy guy capable of repairing most things --- is this something I can repair? I would prefer to swap out the circuit or damaged part than attempt to resolder if the pieces are very small. Any suggestions???? thanks. Posted Aug. 1, 2007 -- Chicago Area
Hi, The Mitsubishi TV set you have uses two of the STK 392-570 convergence correction IC's. These IC's can be purchased from here http://www.mcminone.com/search.asp?keyword=stk392-570&btnSubmit.x=6&btnSubmit.y=7 These are the original Sanyo replacement type IC's. No aftermarket cheapo ones. Unfortunately this board that the IC's come on is part of the main Printed circuit boards. If one was available for a replacement, it would cost in the range of about 400 bucks. The way it sound that your TV set is intermittent, is that the IC's are not bad, but need to be simply re soldered. This happens a lot with this model number or set of convergence IC's. To tell you the truth, I have had to replace these types of convergence IC's very rarely. Mostly when the set come on with bad convergence and does not change. Find a friend or a neighbor who can solder, find the black STK392-570 IC's standing up against a large metal plate, turn over the printed circuit board and resolder all of the pins, just double check all of the solder points for solder bridges. Good Luck
