Hi. We've got used ("as is") Electrolux Frigidaire

Not sure if u still need help but the first thing I would do is remove the grills on the front and back and vacuum out the fins on the condenser...dust and grime collects here and will cause the unit to overheat and not cool properly....sometimes an air compressor can be used or air in a can for the hard to reach places.
Tr this and see what happens...good luck

Solenoidvalve not open

The cooling plate is icing up, sounds like the defrost element has failed, (Fan is hitting ice, hence the noise when shutting door) if there is ice building-up in the rear of the unit, either the defrost timer or defrost element has failed, Defrost the unit for 2 days with door open and NO FOOD inside. turn the unit back on, will work fine for a few days/weeks then return to problem. Solution points to Element, timer or thermo fuse, not costly to repair any of these,. Estimate $90-$120.Any further problems. Let me know PLEASE. Russ

I have a Maytag 3 door ,freezer on the bottom, for the last 3 years every few weeks the fridge looses its coldness and the freezer is ice cold also it it always on temperature 1, so I have to unplug it...

Either, the defrost timmer has had it, or the freezer defrost element has failed, the element is the most common cause of this type of problem. You have ice build-up in the freezer cores because it cant defrost, all frostfree units rely on cold air from the freezer to blow into the fridge, if the freezer cores become blocked, air can not pass to the fridge side. I bet you, if you left the unit off for 2 days to defrost totally,,,,with the doors open...then plugged it back in, it would work like new for 2 weeks.
Timmer or defrost element needs to be replaced...do not fall for the trick that the fridge mech. has to take it away, you tell him that this is the problem and you will save yourself ALOT of cash.

Dont forget to vote for the solution...regards Russ

Whirlpool AFB126/H/AL Freezer - Defrosting & Refrosting

Hi. I am Kelly and welcome to FixYa. Here is the real question..... Is the food staying frozen?

Freezers usually defrost 3 times a day (8 hr intervals) Some as often as 4 times a day. The freezer use concept is that it is not opened more than 3 times a day. (Yes there will be more times than that any given week)

Having said all of that.... some things to look at.

1. Check the door seal for any signs of tears... grease... collapse...

2. Make sure there are no gaps in the door or between the closed door and the seal.

3. Many people don't check this one... but make sure it is level. An un-level freezer can cause the door seal not to function correctly.

Now if your saying that the food is actually defrosting... then there are a few other things that can cause that.

A. Sticking / defective Defrost timer

B. Defrost element is not heating and the freezer goes through a VERY long defrost cycle as the contents have to reach 60 Deg F for the 60 Deg bi-metal thermostat to close and advance the defrost timer to start the compressor.

C. Intermittent operation of the 60 Deg thermostat

I hope this clears things up a bit for you.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Actually, its a True T-72 refrigerator. After running for a few weeks, the unit trips the breaker and continues to do it unless I leave it off for a few days and then re-plug it in, at which point it runs...

some manufacturers use a heater in a pan for the condensate water that is generated from the defrost cycle. It is usually located near the evap and compressor area. I've even seen them under the condenser coil. Look for a heated pan. You may have a bad heater. When it goes into defrost, water enters the pan and trips the breaker as the heater may be open and water enters it shorting it to ground. Waiting a few day allows the water to evaporate out. And the process starts all over again.

I would look for this first. If this does not pan out, let me know and we can dig alittle deeper. But try to have more details.

Freezer not defrosting

You got the right idea. your fridge have a deforst problem, and it can be cause by a number of items. 1. the timer, 2 the defrost temperature control. 3 the defrost element itself.
Before you use the hair dryer when there is ice forming in the back panel, try to turn the timer and see wheather you can set it to defrost cycle manually if you can then the timer need to be change. the 2 and 3 item is a bit more work for normal people to deal with, you better call in a serviceman and watch him how he handle it so you can try it yourself next time. God Bless

Frigidaire upright freezer Model #FFU17C3AW1 Not keeping cold

Yes that is the correct part number.
If a new cold control does not correct the problem. Replace the compressor start relay.
