QuickTime error 2048 somtimes make you can't play file such as MP4. There can be multiple reasons that QuickTime Player can't open MP4. It could be just a glitch or a complicated cause. But it's worth noting that MP4 is a file format or container. You can imagine that it is like a box that has your video, audio, and metadata in. Here MP4 defines how the video, audio, and metadata are stored within the container.

Sometimes you can even swap out the container without changing the file type. The container format is completely different from the video format(video codec). MP4 can use various video and audio codecs, sometimes H.264 for video and AAC for audio, sometimes others. That's why sometimes your QuickTime Player can support MP4 playback, occasionally it doesn't.

This error is most commonly happen to software related to QuickTime player. QuickTime Player sometimes fails to play certain files and users receive QuickTime error 2048.

There are 3 ways to let you play MOV files on PC: install codec package for your Windows Media Player to let it be compatible with MOV files, adopt 3rd-party MOV compatible media player software, and convert MOV file to MP4 or other formats

Quicktime

Hi,

You can try the following,

1) Navigate to library, it will be in your main drive.
2) Remove all files from the QuickTime*.PKG, where "*" is your version number. This tells you that those packages are not installed.
3) Click on the "download Quicktime" link. DO NOT USE THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE UTILITY. Download QuickTimeInstallerX.dmg. Double click this file (probably on your desktop) and then invoke the installer by double clicking QuickTime701.pkg.

4) Restart the computer.

Regards,
Shrey
