Kitchenaid Dishwasher Control Board or Thermistor

Earlier this week my Dishwasher blew its thermal fuse. I replaced the thermal fuse and cleared what I thought was the debris from the grinder area that might have created the problem. Low and behold the fuse blew again - so this time I replaced the main circulation pump/ motor ($135), the drain pump ($60), the grinder ($20), and a new thermal fuse. I also replaced the wires that came with the thermal fuse - per instructions included. The dishwasher now works but hangs around 42 minutes into Normal Wash cycle and 39 minutes into Light/China cycle. At the same time the area on the door where the control panel sits gets hot- more so than the rest of the door. I am worried I will blow another thermal fuse. I am not sure whether the soil sensor/ thermistor needs to be replaced or the main control panel. I tried running the diagnostic (normal>heat>normal>heat) but got nothing. Thoughts on what to check/ replace next? Thanks in advance for any tips.

SOURCE: Kitchenaid Dishwasher Control Panel lights - some don't light up

The problem is the control panel. You may have to shut the power off for a few seconds to reset the control board, then check to see if it works. If not, the control board has a break in the wiring or the keypad is no good.

SOURCE: Dishwasher stopped with water in the bottom.

Hi Gordon136,

I believe your Drain Pump is causing the problem, it may have a leak on it, I'd suggest removing the Drain Pump from the lower sump - Accessable from the bottom of the machine. Another component to check is the Circulation Pump - Look for water marks on both the Drain pump and Circulation pump.

If any of the 2 are down to earth then the power would trip, or in your case the fuse would pop.

I doubt it is anything to do with the control Panel, the reason why I am saying this is that your water is still in the machine, your dishwasher will activate the pump to drain it, but it would then send power through to it. Then cause a dead short and POP goes the fuse.

Hope I have described this in a way you can understand.

Please let me know?

Kind Regards

Kitchenaide dishwasher KUDS25SHBS1

I have listed COMMON problems / reasons why a dishwasher won't start..
The thermal fuse might have blown. The thermal fuse helps to prevent damage to the dishwasher by turning off power so that it doesn't overheat. Once blown, the thermal fuse will have to be replaced for the dishwasher to work. The thermal fuse is usually located in the control panel on the control board or mounted to the bottom of the tank behind the lower panel. The thermal fuse can be checked for continuity.
The door switch, or switches, are sometimes called interlock switches. The door switch prevents the dishwasher from running while the door is open. If the dishwasher won't start, the switch or switches might be defective. To access the door switches, remove the control panel or inside door panel - depending on the model. They can be tested for continuity.
If the dishwasher does not start, the door latch assembly might be defective. These are normally made of plastic and cannot be repaired. If the door won't latch and the door latch is broken, replace it.
The main control board provides power to nearly every component of the dishwasher. If the dishwasher won't start the main control board might be defective. You should first check for more common parts. Many times control boards are replaced unnecessarily because the problem was not diagnosed properly.

there is thermal fuse, Hi limit, and thermistor. the thermistor should have continuity at room temp I don't know what resistence(ohms) it should have. Most units I have seen provide a schematic and trouble shooting guide taped under the control panel for service personal.

sounds like you have a bad control board on unit.and the reason the thermal fuse went out is one of the relays are getting stuck on unit. before long the fuse will go bad again when the resistance level gets to high again. i would replace the control board and you should be fine...good luck to you...

Just stopped and no power, breaker is fine

There is a thermal fuse (also known as a bi-metal) located inside the control panel of the dishwasher. The part number for the thermal fuse replacement is W10258275.

If you type in your model number you can utilize the exploded view parts diagrams at pcappliancerepair.com, appliancepartspros.com or searspartdirect.com to assist you in locating the part. The fuse is listed as item 6 under the "Control Panel Parts" section.

To replace the fuse, follow these steps:

1. Make sure the dishwasher is unplugged or the breaker is turned off.

2. Open the door and remove only the top screws directly behind the control panel.

3. Remove the protective cover from back of the control panel to expose the main control board.

The thermal fuse should be mounted to the control board. If you remove it and take a resistance check, it should read close to 0 ohms, if good. If bad, replace as necessary.

If you have any questions about this repair, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Lights are on, but dishwasher will not start. Called a local repairman. He decided the control board failed. he ordered a new board and replaced it. Now he says the new board is defective. I think...

That model has an electronic thermal fuse that clips onto the control board housing. the dishwasher will not start if that fuse is blown. you can check it if you have a meter. If it has continuity through it, its good, if no continuity, replace it. They cost between $20-$30. If that is not the problem, I would be looking at that motor. Kitchenaid makes a great dishwasher, but I can't count how many motors I've had to replace in them. Hope this helps, good luck.

Kitchen aid dishwasher fuses

There may be a thermal fuse located on the electronic control board housing that may have failed. This replaceable part (gray or white) is clipped on to the side of the housing. It will not look like the type of 'fuse' you may be accustomed to. It could be a round or bullet style.

Trying to access the pump and motor section

You should check the thermal fuse problem listed elsewhere on this site. My power went out on mine, and it was a cheap {less than $20 part} that snaps into the control panel. It eventually blew again a month later, and I replaced the heater element, and the new heater element came with a new board that was very easy to install. the new programming on the board actually speeds up the cycle due to a higher wattage heating element.

But what I didn't do the first time was replace the wires going to the thermal fuse that came with the replacement kit. (Apparently the OEM wires are too thin) Had I done that, I probably never would have tripped the fuse again and not bought the new heater element.

Kitchenaid dishwasher just quit mid cycle?

Check your thermal fuse. The fuse is located inside the control panel on or near the main control board. It will be a bullet shaped component mounted with a white plastic clip with two wires leading from it. The fuse should read a short if good. Now...keep in mind, if the fuse blew it is usually for a reason. Replacing it may or may not correct your problem. In some model dishwashers there was a thermal fuse kit that was required to be installed which involved cutting the wires and using a wire splice to connect the new fuse. It seems that there was a design flaw where the gauge wire used in manufacturing would cause the thermal fuse to blow prematurely due the wire overheating. I can't remember if this applies to KitchenAid, but I believe it does. You may inquire about this at your local parts store. I hope this helps you.
