My UF-790 is running on a voip system. Was working fine (for a few weeks) until today. The fax is not going through. I'm getting a message on the display that reads "Info Code: 503".

Check cassette refers to the paper cassette. If there is no paper or the cassette is not seated correctly, then you will get that error. If you tried those, then check the left rear of the cassette for a tab. If that tab is broken off you will get this error and you need a new paper cassette. Good luck.
That is "CS of modem is not able to turn ON during training." It could be a bad SC circuit board, but usually that's a bad line or connection. Get your phone lines checked out by your phone company. If that doesn't do it, then you'll have to replace the board in the fax machine.
First see if you plugged the phone line into the line jack and not the extension or answering machine jack, Sounds like it is not plugged into the LINE jack.
Thats the most frequent problem when you can fax out but not in.
