MIRAGE SUB PS8 - Proficient S12 Subwoofer

Open the unit and look for bulged or leaking capacitors.
Replace the suspicious ones.

You DO realize the preamp is duplicating stuff in the Nad C372, right? This Preamps adds nothing but PHONO connectivity and control. That's why they're called "preamps".

Use the Sub Out pair on the Preamp (joined by an RCA Y-cable) for the Sub Input on the sub (duh):

Run RCA from the Preamp Main Out to the C372 Aux In to hear any sources attached to the preamp.

Or, if you don't NEED the preamp because you don't have a turntable,ditch the preamp and connect the sub using the speaker outputs on the NADS, according to the manual.

You have damaged the sub by playing it too loud.
Its either the map or speaker that has gone.
You should send it off to get repaired.

The high Level inputs are suitable for an 8 ohm amplifer The low level inputs would be used to connect via your amplifer's pre amp output.

Lack of sound as you have confirmed, lies in the sub. the sub is faulty. check the sound I.C in the Sub and the output side If and only if you are a quarlified technician. Else, a technician needs to help change the output I.C and check the transistors likewise.

with nothing connected and the sub turned on....Most subs buzz when the circuitry starts to fatigue. The last time I heard this ..the repair ended up being one of the two fat capacitors inside the sub. I have a means of testing this,,you may not. I am a repair shop with a bit of experience in component level board repair.

within the sub amplifier is an electronic amplifier, that is shorted and blown a fuse. This is all internal. If you can dismantle this module, I suggest do so and any electrical/electronic individual will identify the part needed. you could also check on a replacement module-complete.

Something getting hot probably means something shorted out. You probably know that since you replaced the fuses already... . Can you give me some idea of what you do and do not know about electronics? Then I will say fewer dumb things. . When troubleshooting any electronic device, especially amps, open it up and look at the circuit board. Look for burned board and components. Then test to see if the burned/blown component had reason to blow (it probably did). . Often a shorted transistor runs too much current through some other component and the other component blows up. . Another cause, less common, is a shorted cap. . Look at the schematics if you have them, if not, you may have to create one to make sense of it. . Or take it to a shop where somebody does this all the time. The only one here went belly up in the last 12 months... . . About the pots . Try blowing out the pots which are popping with some tuner cleaner. Use with caution, and always with everything turned off and power cords unplugged. . Pots do not usually make popping noises unless they are very old or live in a very dusty place... . just connect your subwoofer mono RCA to your amp sub single out rca connector. you do not need to megre all those 4terminals into one. in fact internal circuit of those 4rca are merging inside to one since the sub uses only a single amp. 4inputs was meant for sources with multiple sub out
