The temperature sensor in the oven needs to be replaced. Here is the part to order. As far as the top element, lift the top up and look for lose or broken wires on the element. Keep me posted.

Whirlpool oven, stove and range fault codes (ERC and EOC display errors).

Here a list of Whirpool oven fault codes. The codes had been collected from different service manuals. This was a memo that I wrote for my own use. I think this can be useful to owners and technicians.

Digital Control (for oven temp and clock adjustment) not working

Puzzeled, usually when there is a stuck or shorted keypad there will be an error code. First let's see if we can tell if we are in Centigrade or Ferenhiet. Press the bake and broil button together for 2 or 3 seconds. SF should appear in the display. Press the broil pad again and C or F will be displayed. Toggle to F and press start. See if that was the problem. If not try to increase the speed of the + and - keypads. Press bake and broil together for 2 seconds until SF displays. Press the + keypad increase the speed of the control. It should toggle from 1 to 5, 5 being the fastest. Press start and see if that works. If niether works..then have someone remove the keypad ribbon cable from the control board and clean the ends with an eraser. See if that solves the issue...Catriver..post back and let me know.

Maytag Electric Range model MER5530

momhenry, usually the F1 codes means a bad touch pad membrane but the fact that you had it in self clean could indicate another problem. There are a couple of ways to indentify the real problem. First have someone ohm out the temperature sensor. It should read between 1100 and 1200 ohms at room temp. This is the probe that is in your oven. It will unscrew from the inside and have a harness. Unplug the harness and test it from there. If the sensor checks out, kill the power to the oven and remove the keypad ribbon from the main board. Plug the oven back in with the keypad ribbon off and see if the error code returns. If it returns and your sensor checks out, it's the main board. If it doesn't return it's your touchpad. With-out being there, my past experience with this model would lean toward the temp. sensor. Check this out first, Catriver...post back.
