You are most likely getting bad capacitors in the main power supply as well as the sweep power supplies. Looking at the age of this unit, the cost to replace the power supply, it will cost you about 350 to 450 to repair this set. You MAY ALSO need to replace the High voltage/ sweep board as well. The best way to properly tell would be to call out a factory authorized Zenith repair center. They should have all the boards available to test the TV with. That would also be a bit more to repair. In my opinion, the cost would not justify the repair. Good Luck with your TV set.
the static sound may be due to a defect in the high voltage circuits, IE Fly-back transformer or and voltage multiplier, posibly high voltage leads to the CRTs arching to ground, finally horizontal sweep circuits
It sounds like your looking for a CRT (red) the part # is on the CRT and could be puchased through any Zenith (LG) distributer- usually around $300- $500. Google the part # when you get it and you may find a used Picture Tube (CRT)for cheaper.
No you will need to replace the flyback. Go to the following link and leave them your model number and tellthem the part youre needing they provide new parts with instalation instructions so you can do the repair yourself and save quite abit of money. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
sounds like the flyback transformer is bad would need to change the supply module 6871VPM997D approx $175.00 or replacement of flyback T403 and part number 6174Z-6400B runs 49.27 but would require soldnering skills
There is a very good chance that the fault can be in the power supply, and or one of the scan circuits are failing, due to a few parts that have come off their values. These types of faults are due to age and use.
You should call in a service rep who is familiar with your make and model of set. He would be able to give you a proper estimate for the repairs.
Some of these repairs are very reasonable in cost, while the more difficult types can be rather expensive.
Hope yours is the first case
Good luck
