My laptop, hp compaq nx6110 has developed a problem with resolution on the monitor. Its dim and i can barely see anything. The function to increase the brightness on the monitor on the keypad is not working. How do i get to reset to default properties
The problem could be a faulty inverter or the backlight fluro light lamp. The inverter is easier to replace than the fluro lamp.
Google the WEB for replacement parts and instructions on replacing the lamp. There are quite a few helpful sites for parts and repair instructions.
OS?
Check the "Power Options" in your "Control Panel" (classic view). For whatever option you have picked, click "Change plan settings". There you can either "Restore default settings", or manually "Change advanced settings". If you choose "advanced settings", look for "Display" / "Display brightness".
I forgot, when you go into your "Power Options" from the "Control Panel" and click "Change plan settings" there's a brightness meter right there.
I'll try the same fix from a different angle, if this don't work I'm at a loss.
In your "Start" menu click "Control Panel". Make sure you're in "Classic View" (left frame at top) and click on "Power Options". In "Power Options", look at the left frame, should be the last option: "Adjust the display brightness".

I have followed all the steps in but the nx6110 has got no change plan settings hence no brightness meter. How else can i reset the laptop in the absence of a reset button? I am thankful for all the advice and efforts.
