I have followed all the steps in but the nx6110 has got no change plan settings hence no brightness meter. How else can i reset the laptop in the absence of a reset button? I am thankful for all the advice and efforts.

The problem could be a faulty inverter or the backlight fluro light lamp. The inverter is easier to replace than the fluro lamp.
Google the WEB for replacement parts and instructions on replacing the lamp. There are quite a few helpful sites for parts and repair instructions.

OS?

Check the "Power Options" in your "Control Panel" (classic view). For whatever option you have picked, click "Change plan settings". There you can either "Restore default settings", or manually "Change advanced settings". If you choose "advanced settings", look for "Display" / "Display brightness".

I forgot, when you go into your "Power Options" from the "Control Panel" and click "Change plan settings" there's a brightness meter right there.

I'll try the same fix from a different angle, if this don't work I'm at a loss.

In your "Start" menu click "Control Panel". Make sure you're in "Classic View" (left frame at top) and click on "Power Options". In "Power Options", look at the left frame, should be the last option: "Adjust the display brightness".

Don't know why it won't work

You won't be able to. Your on board graphics does not support it. You would have to update your graphics card and with your laptop you are unable to do so.

How do i remove the screen from a cq60 laptop...I want to remove the screen and install a new one

This will require a fairly intensive teardown of the laptop. You will need to remove the battery on the bottom to get to the screws that hold part of the assembly and/or covers together. You will need to remove the keyboard and the switch cover that is above the keyboard, this piece hides the display mounts. You will need to disconnect the small video cable that is attached from the monitor to the main board. You may also have a wireless antenna cable that will need to be disconnected. You should now be able to unscrew the mounts and separate the monitor from the laptop. Reverse this process to install the new monitor. If you are installing a new monitor in the laptop's original monitor case, you may need to access several tiny screws around the monitor that are typically hidden under small sticky covers around the monitor. For an expanded walkthrough with illustrations, check this site http://www.scribd.com/doc/5988230/HP-Compaq-Nx6110 and look for section 6.19 Display Assembly.
