Install the latest video driver for your model Compaq laptop.

This will require a fairly intensive teardown of the laptop. You will need to remove the battery on the bottom to get to the screws that hold part of the assembly and/or covers together. try and connect a monitor to the external monitor connection at the back and check whether the same thing happens. probably it wont and this will mean that the screen is having luminosity problems and might need to be changed.
