Frigidaire Front load Washer Does not spin (Drains fine, Water comes in fine)

Hi John - Often when a unit does not spin, it is because the unit cannot properly drain and dispose of the water and detergent solution. The humming noise is mainly caused due to the drainage hose/pump possibly being clogged and needs to be cleaned. If not, the washer may be experiencing another possible issue with the faulty pump, timer or control board not communicating correctly. Because it could be a number of any one of several underlying causes, I would recommend contacting a professional to properly diagnose and repair the unit.

tip

Washing Machines will not rinse or spin

If the water won't drain out of your washing machine, either something is stuck in the drain hose or pump, or the pump is broken. Both fixes are simple if you're even just a little bit handy with tools. We're showing the repair on a Maytag washing machine.
What is wrong with a washer that does not spin?
If your washer fills with water but doesn't agitate, the problem is likely to be a faulty lid switch, a broken belt, or a problem with the motor. (Note: Direct-drivewashing machines do not have belts.) To diagnose the problem, do the following: 1Check the washing machine's spin cycle.

What causes a washing machine not to drain and spin?
If the washer won't drain there might be a clogged pump or hose. It's common for small socks or other small clothing items to get into the water drain system and clog the hose leading to the pump or the pump itself. Remove the hoses from the pump in order to remove the article of clothing.

The washer will not drain after the rinse cycle

Three main causes for water not draining are listed below:
  1. Clogged drain tube - exhaust or relief tube the hose empties into (does not apply if hose empties into a sink)
  2. Clogged drain hose - occasionally, debris from the wash will find it's way into the hose and clog, backing water up into the machine
  3. Clogged drain pump - like the drain hose, debris gets jammed into the pump. It may take a while for the pump to accumulate enough debris before it clogs. Disconnecting the hose under the washer will occasionally leave enough room to dig out any clogs in the pump. If not, the pump may need to be removed to clear the obstruction.

Water will not drain, makes a noise when filling, pump does not seem to be froze up.

Three things to inspect are:
  1. Clogged drain hose - cause water to back up to the pump and shut down
  2. Clogged drain tube - usually occurs when the drain hose is attached to a drain tube that empties out into the homes sewer system. Just like a clogged drain, water will back up all the way through the drain hose into the pump and shut down.
  3. Clogged or bad drain pump - Many times, debris left in pockets will work it's way into the drain pump. Over time, enough debris (paper, coins etc) could lodge itself into the pump. When the machine tries to empty or spin out, the pump becomes overwhelmed and shuts down. Sometimes, you may even see a puddle of water appear under the washer due to a clogged pump. This can also happen if the pump itself is worn out and no longer working up to specifications.
Luckily, your drain pump is easily accessible. Placing a towel or blanket down, unplug the machine, disconnect the fill and drain hoses and gently turn the washer forward onto the towel or blanket. Only tools needed are a pair of pliers and a phillip head screwdriver. After removing the drain hose and the screw holding the pump in place, it should easily be removed so you can inspect for debris (a very common problem with F&P washers.
Best of luck with your repair.

The washer fills and empties but no spin or agitate

I assume by empties you mean it pumps the water out.
That being the case you will need a way to make sure the timer is sending power to the motor. If it is emptying by itself then you have a siphon problem and need to raise the drain hose exit above the top of the washer or install a siphon break.

Top loaing washer fills then mostly empties repeatedly

Check you drain line. It may be too low or the air gap is blocked at the drain pipe.
A test is remove the drain pipe from the wall drain. Hold it up high and turn the washer on to fill.
If it fills and stops, then starts agitation. Repair the drain hose.

Waher fills up and empties at the same time

you definalty have a drain hose issue, id bet that either your drain hose is lower the nte hunit itself or even connected to and outside drain sorce with out any "air gap/brake" i the drain line.. your creating a siphon action, you drain line should drain into a stand pipe no lower the n the back of the units console
