XL44 oven will not work

The 4 gas stove burners work fine. The broiler and lower oven burner will not start. The broiler "glow plug or ignitor" heats up but the lower one does not. Is this the problem and how do I replace it?

my GE XL44 gas oven will not turn on. The broiler works. Is it also the igniter? Thanks!

The fact that the igniter on the broiler actually begins to glow rules out your Electronic Oven Control (EOC) board. Usually when both oven features fail to work the EOC, or wiring, is the culprit. But...in your situation, the broiler igniter glows, but the bake igniter doesn't. You don't see this happen very often, but I believe you may have two bad igniters. The following link explains how to replace an igniter and gives you some theory behind how they operate:

Although an igniter glows, it still may be bad. This is usually dependent upon the age of the stove and the frequency of use. Usually, the bake igniter burns out first, because it is used more often. These igniters also grow weak with age. Which means, if they do not draw the required current necessary to open the gas safety valve, you will not have ignition. This is a designed safety feature that prevents free flowing gas from filling the oven box before ignition. I would recommend replacing both igniters to see if this corrects your problem. If you require additional assistance, or have questions, please let me know before you rate the solution. I hope this helps solve your problem.

MY MAYTAG OVEN WILL NOT TURN ON WHEN I SET THE ELECTRONIC DIGITAL THERMOSTSTAT LIKE SAY I PROGRAM IT TO 350 DEGREES,,, NOTHING HAPPENS,,, BUT WHEN I GO TO SET THE BROILER THE BROILER WORKS JUST FINE,,, I...

First I want to commend you for your giving us good information to start with!
So-- we know we have gas, and we know the Broiler Valve and ignitor works-- Good observation!

However-- we have no ignitor (No bright red/Yellow glow)-- like you go for the Broiler-- right?

Well, we can NOT get ignition on the main burner-- unless we have the ignitor for the main burner getting hot, and then the gas valve to that burner can light, and give you heat...

Soo-- Likely we have an ignitor failure for the Main burner---

Do you have a warranty on the stove?
Do you have a service person qualified to tackle this job?
There will be electrical work, and parts obtainment issues to deal with now---
I suggest you call the local service people for this stove, and tell that that you need to have the main gas burner ignotor replaced for this stove model number-- and see what they tell you.

Let me know if I can help more--

Unplug the range.
Remove the oven racks.
remove the oven base pan.
remove the flame spreader pan.
remove the glow bar ignitor on the left hand side of the gas burner and replace it with a good ignitor.

Broiler works, oven settings - no flame, no heat.

Hi, it sounds like the oven ignitor might be bad. Remove the floor panel inside the oven and you will see the ignitor attached to the burner assembly. Turn the oven on and see if it glows. You can test the connection for the ignitor and see if it gets 120V to it. The most common problem with the gas oven is the ignitor. Most of the time, the ignitor glows but is not strong enough to open the gas valve.
Please let me know if this was helpfull or if I can assist you further.

Thanks

KENMORE GAS STOVE OVEN LOWER BURNER WON'T WORK

Most likely a hot-surface ignitor has failed. If it doesn't consume enough current, the gas valve won't open. It's usually a fairly easy fix, once you gain access to the ignitor and have a new one to replace it with. Make sure you unplug the range...

I have XL44 oven JGBP26. I replaced the glow ignitore on the oven but still will not glow. I carfully tested the current to the ignitore and showed 125 volts, I also tested the resistance on the control valve lead and to ignitore and showed 1100.
