Lamp is out? according to the red flashing light..Sony Wega 42"

Try to replace Lamp part number XL-2200U / XL-2200 but since screen getting darker you may have problem with Optical Block very expensive repair

Flashing of the led light indicates an error code, count how many times it will blink to determine where the fault came from.

Look in your manual on resetting the lamp hours after installing a new lamp.

According to the manual (you can see it here) page 122 that describes 3 red flashing lights:

"The lamp cover is not attached securely. When you secure the lamp cover, the POWER / STANDBY light flashes in red and the LCD projection TV enters the standby mode (see page22)"

Page 22 says:

"... if the POWER / STANDBY light flashes continuously, this may indicate the display unit needs servicing..."


Most DLP displays make use of a "color wheel". These small motors spin at many thousands of RPM. They often begin to make scratching sounds when they are beginning to fail. Some manufacturers make it difficult to change yourself - and others make it pretty easy.

Time to replace lamp in tv.
Existing lamp in tv is dead and tv needs new lamp to work again.
Lamp replacement procedure is easy and written in user manual of tv.

see the owners manual. If the tv is a DLP the lamp is out or it has a cooling problem. the light engine must be replaced by a factory service tech. not a doit yourself fix. Sorry hope i'm wrong.

Red light blinking 3 times shows problem with lamp cover.
Lamp cover is not fixed securely in your tv after lamp replacement. Lamp cover is first thing that was removed to replace lamp, check lamp cover and make sure its back in place properly.

When Sony tv shows lamp light that means lamp inside tv is dead/ broken and need to be replaced.
Lamp replacement procedure is easy and written in user manual.
Please buy Sony original lamp for good picture in tv.

If Lamp has never been replaced its possible ,but sony is well known for Bad light tunnels or the Light engine. Call UED for information and Part 1-800-648-6657 and if Lamp call Mats 1-800-628-1118

Did you notice if the screen has been recently going darker if so the lamp has gone.You can check it by removing the lamp and looking at it you will see a grey smoked area or even the lamp mount broken inside the lamp.
