Thank you so much for that information. Visonner did not include any OCR software. Do you recommend any OCR software?

    Thank you.

Most of the time a scanner by default, will scan a document in a tif or other image file format. That means that the scanned image is actually very similar to a photograph. In order to edit the text, you first have to convert the image using something that's called OCR software. OCR is a process that the software uses to look at a scanned document image and determine what characters are on the page. It's not always very accurate but that depends on the quality of the scan and on the OCR software being used. You must have received some sort of scanning software with the scanner. Hopefully it containes some sort of OCR software. Some scanners will save you this extra image manipulation by having a setting that allows you to scan directly to a word document. Usually in that configuration, the OCR software automatically knows to convert the scanned document image in order to automate the process. But either way, you first have to install the manufacturer's software. Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

I've used Nuance Omnipage and it seems to do a pretty decent job. Abbyy is supposed to be pretty good also but it's pricey, Around $350.00. You can download a free trial here:

    http://finereader.abbyy.com/?from=google...

    It's pretty huge, 245Mb. That'll take a while.

Other than that I would Google OCR and see if you can maybe find something cheeper or maybe even free.

Here's an open source (FREE!) product that received 31/2 out of five stars. Can't beet the price!

I have a HP Precisionscan Pro 3.14. I want to scan something as an editable file but aren't given that as an option. Is there an update so I can do that?

If you scan any document, it would not be in editable formate. You would need to convert the scan document in to text by OCR software like Nuance, Adobe Writer etc.. and then you might be able to edit the document.

Can you also Fax with this One Touch 8900 ?

This is only a scanner. To Fax, you will need a separate fax machine or fax modem. If both the scanner and fax machine are connected to your computer, you will be able to scan the document and then fax it from the computer. (Depending on your OS/software, this could be easy or take several steps. For Windows Vista and Windows 7, you can use Windows Fax and Scan to do both steps. (However, the program doesn't scan to PDFs.) Paperport will also send a scanned document to an installed fax option. PaperPort is part of the third-party software that came on the CD with the scanner.)

Documentation for the Visioneer OneTouch 8900 is available here: http://support.visioneer.com/products/8900/default.asp .

I hope this helps.

(There are some email-to-fax and web-to-fax options but I have not reviewed them.)

How can i edit a scanned document on the lexmark 5650es?

Hi. You will need the OCR software installed in your computer. It is only available in the installation cd that came with your printer. The software is not available for download, even from the Lexmark website. If you have installed the scan software already, just open up the Lexmark Productivity Studio(for Windows) or All-in-One Center (for Macintosh)and choose Scan to Edit or Scan using OCR so that you can edit your scanned document. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Can't scan to word

Scanners do scan to pictures. The only way round this is to find some OCR (optical character recognition) software and "read" the document.

2007 won't scan to Word using HP Officejet Pro L7580

unfortunately the following is from MS Word 2007 Help:

The From Scanner or Camera option for scanning documents and pictures is not available in Microsoft Office Word 2007. Instead, you can use your scanner to scan the document, and then you can save the file to your computer.
After you scan the document, you can use Microsoft Office Document Imaging to create a version of the document that you can edit.
Important The first step is to install Microsoft Office Document Imaging, which is not installed by default.

Sorry.

Cannot edit scanned document

Hi,

its like this, the OCR or the SOftware installed in your computer is limited. If you're trying to scan a document which has a picture or with text that uses different fonts like monotype, or those that are not usually being use for normal documents, usually it wouldnt detect and it become distorted. Anyways, here are the steps that i want you to follow.

1. Open solution center. (click start, go to all programs, go to HP, then click on SOLUTION CENTER). or you can see SOlution Center on your Desktop.
2. Click on Scan Documents, then the Scan documents setting will open. Change the settings to these.
* SCAN TO: Microsoft Word.
3. Then, hit scan.
4. After scanning, the folder My Scans will open automatically, just go ahead and open the scanned document.
5. From there, you can start editing the text.

..remember, the scan a document is limited, it will not read all types of fonts. if the document is using a "times new roman" or "arial" the scanned document appears to be almost the same with the original. But, if the scanned document contains pictures or stylish fonts, that would make the document distorted.

Please let me know if you still have clarifications.

Thank you.

Scan document

Is very hard to alter a scanned document if you are not sure how to, especially without the help of an editing software. but try to scan it to text if you have Word it sure will help, scan it to Word and after is saved you can type or erase certain portions of the document, browse trough the tools tab to search for the option that will suit better the type of work you want to do on your document. If you have Adobe Acrobat Professional this is very easy to do, you only have to scan the document on Adobe format and using the advanced editing tool.
