Starts to power up but shuts down before booting. no display or errors
Make sure no accessories are plugged into your laptop. First remove the battery and try a bootup. If does not bootup, remove the hard drive if you can and try again. If still no full boot, you can try the DVD drive and then the memory. Replace what you have found to be the problem. If none solves the bootup problem, it is either the power supply itself or a mainboard problem, which would required service from an authorized service center from Dell. Verify the center with Dell. The parts I have indicated to try are normally easily removed from the bottom of the laptop, by removing a few small screws.

This means the video driver was not install and it is usinging the generic video driver.
You need to install the correct video driver.
You can download the video and device drivers from Dell WEB site,the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop,better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on thebottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Taglabel is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages,the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where thespecific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you selectthe Windows of the drivers for your Windows operating system.
