Camera says batteries low, replace

Make sure you are using fresh batteries when you are replacing them. If you are using rechargeable batteries, let them charge until the indicator light on the base unit turns green. If the indicator light on the base unit flashes red, the batteries are no longer good.
Cheap batteries form dollar stores (Sunbeam, or store brand name) do not last long, and digital point and shoots eat up those types in a few uses. Best to use Duracell or Energizer batteries for Cameras. They dont have to be Lithium, or digi camera specific batteries. Those are expensive and unnecessary. Basic Duracell or Energizer will do.

Light meter underexposed

The K1000 were designed to use Mercury batteries. After those were banned in the USA folks moved to other types of batteries as in Alkaline, those start out strong, then fade fast. This change in voltage causes errant light meter readings. Batteries I use in my K1000, K1000 SE, and K2 are Silver Oxide 357/303 1.55 volt 0% Hg, by Energizer. Use any brand you want.

Hello I have Pentax IST DL just took out of case put new batteries in did not work battery light came on. Tried again came on but did not take photo. Then turned of again, tried lots of new battery. ...

The early ist cameras had a battery indicator problem which Pentax never addressed. Most owners learned to live with it by turning it off and on several times until it showed full power.

Camera will not accept the new batteries.

I called pentax and they told me only use Energizer batteries. I did not think it would make a differance but the "cheap" batteries do not deliver steady power even that there new the power flux is enough to throw these new cameras off. there that sinistive. Energizer's deliver a very even power and that is the only battery that pentax recamends. All outhers even dualcell delivers uneven power and that will cause the camera to think the batteries are dead.

I have two Pentax p30 35mm cameras but both wind on mechanisms have stopped

Double check which way the batteries are installed, you may have them reversed. The cap should be marked positive, meaning the negative side go toward to contact in the camera body
