HCL4715W Samsung - I have a convergeance issue whereas the display has an hour glass, from top to bottom, curveture. The blue also doesn't seem to adjust when trying to do the convergeance setup. I have replaced the convergeance board with no change and feel that I may have a shorted yoke or other circuit issue. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you, Ali

It sounds like one of the convergence Ic chips is bad---you will need to locate and replace both of them and look for any damaged parts around them; there usually are two pico fuses in this area, one for each IC. The fuses do not look like glass fuses--they usually are green or orange in color and will have the amperage marked on them and on the top of the circuit board.
This is a convergence problem that can be as simple as poor solder connections on the pins of the convergence ICs or defective ICs. If you can solder, you may be able to fix this yourself. If you wish to attempt the repair, update this and I'll provide additional details and instructions.
you need to replace both the convergence ICs number STK392-040 you can get new replacement ICs at the link I am posting and they include free instalation instructions with pictures and free tech support. Heres the link. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
IF YOU HAVE DOUBLE IMAGES YOU CAN GO IN THE MENU AND TRY TO ADJUST THE CONVERGENCE, OR US THE AUTO JUST. ON SOME SETS IT IS ON THE FRONT. IF IT DOESN'T CORRECT THE PROBLEM THEN IT IS CONVERGENCE. I REPAIR 2-3 A WEEK. WE DO IT IN THE HOUSE, NO NEED TO TAKE THE SET OUT. MAKE SURE THEY REPLACE BOTH CHIP'S AND THAT THEY USE ORIGINAL PARTS, THE GENERICS DON'T HOLD UP. THEY USUALLY LAST 3-5 YEARS DEPENDING ON THE USAGE OF THE SET. DON..
Yes thats what you need. Just go to radio shack get a de soldering Iron (the kind with the rubberbulb works fine) as wel as a fine pointed low wattage Iron. Also pick up a tube of heat sink compound while your there. Then lable your wires on the tv that you remove. Desolder both STK392-040 chips and solder in the new ones. Just ve careful not to bridge any of the pins with solder chck them with a magnifying glass. Dont forget to coat the back side of the new heat sinks with heat sink compound. You will need to adjust the convergence when youre finished. Just go slow it takes about an hour. I would also vheck the resistors right next to the ICs at times on or two of them get burnt when the ICs go out. Heres a link to where you can get the replacement ICs. http://www.electronix.com/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?ELECTRONIX_CATALOG_SESSID=78719eac787d8a9ab4cdc46058425c96&keywords=STk392-040&x=2&y=8
