Question about Samson Audio C01upak C01u Microphone and Podcast Pack

Samson C01U USB mic not working on my PC.

Basically,i bought a second hand samson C01U condenser mic,plugged it into my PC,set it as the default device,and it worked perfectly with Mixcraft 3,producing crystal clear sound. After about 5 months of not using my PC (as i had a new laptop) I plugged the samson mic back in,expecting it to work. It didnt. With the mic set as the default on my PC,and it would only just about record on Mixcraft (POORLY,with distorted,quiet sound. It sounded like a cheap dynamic mic) It also wouldnt work on my new Acer Aspire 7000 laptop running windows vista home basic,or another computer i had lying around running windows xp. It also wouldn't record on any other programs such as Cool Edit Pro 2.1,Cubase,Audacity & others.I took the mic to a friends house,plugged it into his PC,and it worked perfectly with his version of Adobe Audition 3 (adobe purchased cool edit from the software owners,upgraded it and released it with a new name). Can anyone help me ??

P.S

The volume settings for the mic were correct everytime i tried it,the level of default volume for the mic is not the problem.

Try this;

1.using different usb inputs on your pc desk top
2.update drivers on both your desk top and laptop
3.using a different usb cable

if it works fine on your friends computer most likely its not the mic

That's normal. You're supposed to record a track and then play it back. In order to hear it live you would need to enable "software playthrough" in your recording software, but there will be a delay, so it probably won't be much use.

The problem is the PC thinks the Mic is attached to the Alpha rather than through the USB directly.
The Alpha software probably ALSO assumes this. Look in the "Sounds and Devices" page of the control panel and check to make sure the appropriate device is selected for voice input. If you don't see the Mic selected, select it, and if it isn't in the list, then it needs a driver installed or activated. Often the PC's audio system wants to "fight" this and it takes some "persuasion" to get it to cooperate.

What is the likely cause of the phantom power of a samson 900 mixer to go bad?
The phantom power is used for condenser mics. MAKE SURE you do not plug in other mics or devices that do NOT have balanced, isolated outputs as they will short out the phantom power to others.

You should find between 15 and 48 volts between BOTH pins 2 and 3 of each mic connector when measured to pin 1 of the connector. There is about 6K ohms impedance from the phantom supply to pins 2 and 3.

IF you have an accident and connected high voltage to pin 2 or 3 it COULD back up and blow the bypass cap for the 48 volts.

Please note: ALWAYS power ANY interconnected equipment from teh SAME receptacle to avoid damage due to ground bounce in the event of a fault in a piece of equipment.

How do i get my samson c01U mic to work with windows vista and cubase le?
plug your condenser microphone into your computer before starting up the cubase program; then after you plug it into your computer start cubase; when cubase loads, press the [F4] key, then that will bring you to the audio configuration menu, there will be a speaker option and microphone option or what ever that stuff is; go to the microphone option and choose the microphone that you are using, then after you choose your microphone setting click close; then after that make create a [audio] then on the audio tab you will see a red button, by pressing that it will allow you to record, but there is another button beside it called a [monitor], press that button then it will allow you to hear your voice while you record your vocals. hope this help.

Only a dynamic mic works on my lap top not condenser mic
Make sure the 48 volt phantom power is on.

Remember this preamp has TRS BALANCED output. If you run this with a stereo adapter into your laptop, the signal and the inverse will be sent into the L and R channels of your laptop and they will CANCEL!

You need to use a special cable that takes say just the tip of the cable from the ultragain connecting to BOTH the left and right inputs of your laptop.

Note: Samson SoftPre is not compatible with Windows Vista however the C01U, C03U and Q1U are all Plug-and-Play compatible with Windows Vista.

Samson CO3U USB mic pattern selection switch broken
I have not used that particular mic, but have a AKG 414 which offers the same three patterns and there are three distinct and separate settings on the switch. Maybe take it back into the store where you bought it and ask for clarification there? Hope this was helpful. Peace

garageband does not read my phonic helix board 18 ch firewire mix i cant get my mac book pro to pic up any sound from the mixer. its a phonic helix board 18 channel firewire mkII mixer. i set all my computer prefrences to the mixer settings.( input, output, ect.) but i dont get a reading on garage band. i am wondering if there is and output / input level control on the mixer? what else can i do?
