Question about Kenmore Freezers

Kenmore freezer buzzer

We turned off/unplugged our freezer overnight to defrost. Today we pugged it in, then turned on the power switch. A loud buzzer alarm went off immediately. We have done this defrost several times in the past and never heard this alrm before. The shelf coils begin to cool, but the buzzer will not turn off.. There is nothing in the manual about this buzzer. Will it turn off after the freezer reaches its low temp. is something else wrong? is there a off/reset button for the buzzer? Thank you Nick

I would need to model number to check if you have a on/off for you over temp alarm. That "Buzzer" is a over temp alarm. If you fridge uses a 9volt battery then you might need to replace the battery. Please post your model number.

SOURCE: Top Shelf of Freezer Not Cooling

sounds like you may have a refridgerant blockage in the system. it may need a regas to see if it can be unblocked, as this is not a quick job it may cost you but phone around on the cost/feasibility of it. it may be just as well to get a new or second hand freezer.

SOURCE: upright freezer not cooling

The model number would help but it sounds like a sealed system leak or restriction. If thats the case I would not suggest trying this yourself. The water should freeze overnight and the frost should keep going to all the shelfs that have coils in them.

SOURCE: low temp alarm goes off on Kenmore upright freezer

The alarm is there for a reason. I wouldn't disconnect it. Maybe the compressor is low on gas. If your thermostat is on extremely low, try moving it up to a less cold position. Look in your owner's manual for recommended settings.

Failing that, get ready to shell out some bucks to the service man!

Without a posted make and model number, it is hard to say. You need to unplug the unit from the power for a couple of minutes and then plug it back in to see if it resets

Frigidaire upright freezer

Hello Susan, thank you for your post!

Did your freezer previously experience a power loss? If the temperature of food rises to an unsafe level, the buzzer will sound and the red light, if equipped, will also glow. First, deactivate the alarm to your appliance by unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker. Wait approximately ten minutes and then turn on your freezer. After deactivating the alarm and your freezer has run approximately four hours, the red light/alarm should go off on its own. If the red light/alarm continues to stay on, your freezer may possibly have a communication problem with the control board, temperature control or a wiring harness. If this is the case, I would recommend connecting with an experienced technician to determine the underlying cause.

Hi James.

Most Kenmore upright freezers use a backup battery located at the lower part of the appliance. When the battery is low the freezer will beep continuously. If the unit has been off for a long time, and if the unit uses a battery, then the battery may need replacement.

Here a picture of the battery in its housing, located in the lower front part of the freezer.

Things are defrosting. Red light on bottom right side is one. When I turn on the on/off switch a buzzer/alarm sounds. Is this freezer dead?

It may be a malfunction causing this.
Check for ice buildup on the lower panel inside the freezer.
This will be a sign off a failed defrost component.
Check the fan motor in the freezer,is it running?
If not, that can be a problem.
Feel the compressor,is it running? If not, that can be a problem.

Alarm buzzer went off and the yellow and redlights are "on."

Hi,

The on/off switch is only for the alarm. Some people do not want the buzzer to sound for them. If your buzzer is going off then the temperature in the freezer is too warm. It usually means the door was not closed all the way or there is a malfunction in the cooling system. Check the door and seal, make sure it is closing all the way around. If it is and the alarm does not stop on it's own then you will need service done on the unit.

Frigidaire # LFFH2067DoW2 # WB52430831 upright freezer (frost free commercial)

Freezer is still freezing. The alarm sounded and I switched the switch off to turn off. The manual says that the temperature isn't at the right temperature and once it reaches the correct freezing temperature the light will come back on or the sound would go off after at least 4 hours. This was since last night about 6:00 and if i switch the switch the alarm is still sounding. The left side of the freezer is a little warmer than usual. Any suggestions
