Screen freezes playing Blue Ray discs only.

When a Blue Ray is played it stopped half way through movie, frozen on the screen. Had to reboot to eject disc, then wouldn't read the disc. Put a Reg. DVD in and it played fine. Another Blue Ray disc and the same freezing occurs. Have had the player for about 9 mos without a problem. Thanks, Jeff

I answer this question like ten times a day so don't feel bad.

The blu-ray laser in your PS3 is a three part laser (cd / dvd / blu-ray). They last only 1-3 years with average use. It's a Sony defect.

What is causing the blue ray player to freeze when playing a movie? Restart and will freeze in same place. Happened also with old blue ray player and we just thought it was wore out.

We discarded our Philips BluRay for this reason. It could play only about half the Netflix BluRay discs we tried on it. Ask Philips at: http://www.support.philips.com/support/contact/contact_page.jsp?userCountry=ca&userLanguage=en

  3. Disc region code does not match region code of the player.
  4. Disc type is not the correct type to play.

Predators blu ray disc wont play have the latest fimware update tried 2 disks now what???????

First, some long winded history and this may not be exactly the same problem you're having but I have an Oppo BDP-83 and I tried 2 different Predators blu-ray discs from Amazon.com, both of which would NOT play the actual movie. I could play the previews and get to the main menu but could not play the movie itself or jump to a scene select, etc. Any option that was selected would completely freeze the player at a black screen and I'd have to hold the power button down for a few seconds to reboot it. I tried it on the most recent Oppo firmware dated May 5th, 2010 AND the beta firmware date August 24th, 2010. Nothing. I read that some people had luck turning BD-Live OFF or disconnecting the player itself entirely from the network or by just waiting it out 5-10 minutes to see if it'd start....nothing worked. I disconnected the ethernet cable, let it stay at that frozen black screen for 30 minutes while I made dinner, fed the kid, etc. The thing that seemed to finally get the 2nd disc to play (1st disc I returned for an exchange via Amazon) was to select the BD Live Extras at the main menu, and download all of the extra previews, etc. After that, the movie played just fine. It could have been a fluke, but hell, I tried everything else and this was the only thing that didn't completely freeze up my player.

Ps3 reads disk inserted but will not play it. games freeze while downloading them. (all) and blue ray movies when told to play come up with black screen and stays there. (frozen)

It sounds like your Blu-Ray drive is fragged.
Return it to Sony. If it is still under warranty, the repair will be free; otherwise, Sony will charge a flat $150 fee.

Stops Playing: screen freezes

My friend suggested I clean the dvd optical reader lens inside the player with a fine brush (like a camera brush with a blower bulb). This seemed to help immensely. I'm not certain if this is just a temporary fix, but it seems to be ok so far.

Wont play some newer rented DVD movies

If it is a blue ray, you need a blue ray dvd player.
