How to reset tomtom

Touch the navigation screen to view the MENU ... select CHANGE PREFERENCES / SETTING ... and look for an icon for "FACTORY RESET".
I'm assuming you wish to do this because all the (previous) info and settings (e.g. HOME location, etc.) is not what you want; the reset will remove all those user settings.

I have a new TomTom Go 2535 that is reading No Maps Found! I have tried a hard reset with no luck. The TomTom seems frozen. Can you help me...

Usually, you'll want to connect a new TomTom GPS to your computer, and (using TomTom HOME), register the device and get the latest maps (downloaded and) installed on your GPS.
Then, you'll have maps on your GPS.

My tomtom wont power up

Hello,

You may want to try a reset by pressing the reset button on the bottom of the GPS with the end of a paper clip.
If the reset does not work, try using the "Clear Flash" tool.

Not picking up gps

Hello,

Try performing a reset.
To reset your ONE XL, use a straightened paper clip, or something similar, to push the reset button. The reset button is next to the memory card slot, on the bottom of your ONE XL. Then turn your ONE XL on.

I have the xl live and after an update which failed, my tom tom has now failed. I have tried a reset but i can only get the legal notice page the i agree touch screen fails to move on. can you help.

Hello,

The TomTom is a portable GPS for automobiles that assists the driver with navigational maps and driving instructions. If the TomTom freezes up or glitches, you can reset the system back to the factory settings. Users that have the 22 Range TomTom models such as the TomTom ONE and TomTom XL can hold down the power button to reset their system. However, the TomTom GO has a manual reset button on the device.

Instructions And What You Need To Solve The Problem.

  • Paperclip
  1. Remove the TomTom GO from its cradle.
  2. Turn the unit upside down.
  3. Look for a small hole in the bottom of the unit. It will be located just behind the release button. The reset button is recessed inside this hole.
  4. Straighten out one end of the paperclip.
  5. Press the recessed button by inserting the straightened end of the paperclip into the reset hole.
  6. Hold the button down for ten seconds, then pull the paperclip out of the hole. Your TomTom GO should now be reset back to the factory settings.

Good luck and thanks for using fixya.

When I switch on my tomtom one XL it freeze on the starting image

It does sound like one of the start-up files might either be corrupt or have been accidentally deleted.

Have you tried the "hard reset" the one where you use a paperclip to reset the device in the tiny hole at the bottom of the unit ?

Usually if that happens on a card it isnt much of a deal because you can put the card in a card ready and copy from the tom tom.

In your case it may be a little different.

If you cannot boot from either the card or the tomtom without the card then you could always restore your tomtom using tomtom home and do it that way.

If you didn't back up then you might want to try the official method of getting most tomtoms going again
