Open the access door and remove your SD card. Hold the card with the label facing you and the angled corner to the top right. Look along the left edge and you will see the very small slide switch. Down is the locked position and up is the unlocked position.

SOURCE: Nikon Coolpix 5200 Getting Message ""Memory Card is Write Protected"

Inspect your SD card carefully. Some SD cards come with a write-protect lock switch on the side of the card. When looking at an SD card from the top there is one required notch on the right side (the side with the diagonal notched corner) and on the left side there is usually a switch. This is the write-protect switch. When this write-protect switch is in the down position (away from the end that is inserted) then it is write protected and read-only. When the switch is in the up position it is write enabled.

Take your memory card out and look to see if you may have moved the sliding switch on the memory card, if you have move it back.

Write Protection: There is a tab on the memory card so you will you need to remove it from the camera and change the position of this tab to "unlock" it.

SOURCE: Camera is saying "Memory card is locked. Slide lock to "write" position."

If you remove the card from the camera, there is a little switch on the SD Card. There is typically a label that shows which direction is locked. If not, switch it to the opposite side. This should solve the problem. Otherwise, there could be a problem with your card. I hope this solves the problem.

SOURCE: "memory card is write protected"?? but it's not the memory card!

It's not the camera. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

Hi, i have here a photo that will show you on how to remove write protect on a micro SD.
1. You need to insert your micro SD into an adapter. 2. Unlock the micro SD through your adapter as shown below. 3. Once done, your micro SD is no longer write protected. eibraz_16.jpg

When I turn on my camera, it wont let me take a picture, it says write protected. If I take out my SB card, then it will let me take a picture. What do I do?

If the memory card is an SDHC card then that is probably the problem. Look at the card, does it say SD or SDHC? I don't believe the camera can use an SD High Capacity card.

If it's a regular SD card, then check the "Lock" switch on the side and make sure it is not set to "Lock". If it's NOT set to "Lock" and NOT an SDHC card, then the problem is inside the camera. There is a small switch on the mainboard of the camera that the little "Lock" switch on the memory card pushes. If that switch is damaged then it will not be pushed by the switch on the card properly and the camera will think the card is locked.
