IDE motherboard gsvr845, trying to install sata2 hard drive

I am trying to install the sata2 hd using sata card via6421. The ribbon goes from mobo to drive ''A'' IDE then to sata card's IDE port. Sata cable goes from sata card to hd. power comes from mobo to sata hd via IDE to sata cable. I've tried changing the jumper from spot to spot and then not at all. When it boots it says ''reboot from proper disk drive'' error

    got it thanks

you are trying to boot from SATA. the MoBo want to boot from IDE.

the 2 drive are different in data connection and acknowledge bit.

the best thing to do at this point is install 1 IDE as main drive and use the SATA drivers for second and third drive.

check the BIOS setting and upgrade it, if needed.

D945gtp how to connect cd-rom hardware

1) IDE {PATA} DVD burner drive:

For an IDE { PATA } DVD burner, connect to the 40-pin IDE header on the motherboard. This is located to the right side of the Ram Memory slots.
It is the longer header that has 40 contact pins. {39 actually}

( The shorter connector on the motherboard is for a Floppy Drive.
{34 pins} It is above the IDE 40-pin connector )

NOTE*
The IDE connector on the motherboard should be keyed. Should have a cutout on one side. This is so the Number 1 pin in the flat IDE ribbon cable, will line up with Number 1 pin in the motherboard connector.

Some flat IDE ribbon cables, do not have a Locating Lug on the connector. (Small rectangular 'bump')

Number 1 pin on the IDE ribbon cable will be on the side that has a faint RED stripe on it.

Number 1 pin in the motherboard connector is at the Bottom, with the motherboard installed.

The side of the flat ribbon IDE cable that has the faint red stripe on it, goes DOWN, when installed in the motherboard connector.

If the DVD drive does not have a cutout for it's circuit board, the faint red stripe of the flat ribbon IDE cable, goes towards the power cable connection.

2) SATA DVD burner drive:
You have 4 Serial ATA headers (Connectors) on the motherboard.
Your SATA harddrive should be plugged into the SATA1 header.

You can choose any open available SATA header, to plug your SATA DVD burner drive into.
BIOS will see it once you turn the computer on.

3) If you somehow have been using an IDE {PATA} harddrive, and have it connected to your IDE connector on the motherboard, you SHOULD not use a DVD drive on that flat IDE ribbon cable, also.

BIOS has to find which device has the Operating System on it, (Windows), and then hand the computer over to the Operating System.

To state again, BIOS will look at both devices connected to that flat ribbon cable. The Harddrive, and the DVD drive.
It will then determine that the Harddrive, is the device that has Windows on it, not the DVD drive.

This slows the computer down, and could result in a blue screen.

If you have an IDE harddrive plugged into the motherboard, it would be best to use a SATA DVD drive.

What type or brand of hard drive do I have to get to install in Acer AM5641 Desktop ? I want to upgrade to a 1 tb hd.

You currently have a 320GB 7200-rpm SATA II hard drive, with 8MB cache install on a base package of your make and model of computer. I would recommend a hard drive like Samsung Spinpoint F4EG 2 TB Internal hard drive. You can find it roughly for $70.00 - $90.00 at online stores like amazon, new egg, etc.

I hope this helps.

IDE Ports not working on ASUS P5LD2-VM Mobo

Good Day sir, hi, Have you tried to enable the IDE on BIOS setup. If the Bios setup did not solve the IDE problem, check the IDE port of the HARD drive, check if there are bent pins.
If still wont work, you can buy a PCI to IDE/SATA card, this is an expansion card in PCI format with IDE and SATA port.We use this card incase the IDE or SATA on the motherboard gets bad. Connect it on the available PCI slot. Then connect the IDE cable of the Hard disk to this card. Thats it.

Secondary IDE channel

the motherboard you have can only support 4 SATA Drives. if you want to use your IDE drives, you have 3 options: 1) buy a SATA to IDE Converter which is around $20-$25. (if you selected this, you can fix the drives into the internal of the pc). 2) buy USB to IDE converter $10-$15. (if you want to fix the drive inside the pc, remove one PCI slot casing cover at the back of the computer casing and use the USB slot at the back of PC). Hope this helps. Good Day!

I can detect no SATA' HDD

The ECS PM800-M2 only supports SATA 1.0 hard drives. If you are using a newer SATA 3.0 hard drive, there is a jumper on the hard drive which has to be set to SATA 1.0 in order for the VIA 8237R chipset southbridge (which Is on your ECS PM800-M2) to recognize the newer SATA 3.0 hard drives. This Is applicable to all motherboards with the Viatech PM800 / 8237R chipsets. Note: the location for the SATA 1.0 / 3.0 jumper varies on each brand of hard drives. Also check If SATA Is enabled In the BIOS and select IDE mode.

Ecs 6100sm-m mobo connections

you have a few options

1) buy a sata harddrive (faster then ide), use the ide for the second harddrive (backup) and cd/dvd rom

2) buy a sata cd/dvd rom use the ide on both harddrives (1 set to slave)

3) depends on your budget, buy a sata drive + sata cd/dvd rom so your main drive is on sata (faster than ide) then you only have your second drive as your backup drive on ide.

i had the same problem when i rebuilt mine, i went for the seperate harddrive and cd/dvd rom and my 320 gb ide as my backup drive

sorry to jump on this post aswell, see what others think

Problems installing a SATA hard drive

Hi Tony. As you are using a SATA hard disk then I would firstly check a few settings, this involves loading the computer BIOS. When you see the computer first turn on, you should be prompted to press "F2" to enter the BIOS screen.

From here select "Enter BIOS SETUP UTILITY" then "Advanced screen" and finally "IDE Configuration"
Verify that 1) Onboard IDE Controller is set to "Enabled"
and          2) “SATA Operation Mode” is set to "[non-RAID]"

Once you have done this, you should see the HDD listed beside SATA 1 or SATA 2 (depending on which port you plugged the hd in to) then press F10 to save and exit. The computer will now start up as normal.

If you have more trouble after checking these settings, please write us again.

Hope this helps

Motherboard fails to see Hard Drive...please help

Sounds like you lost an ide channel, swap the ide cables around, primary to secondary and secondary to primary. and see if it recognizes the hard drives and not the cdrom.

I lost an IDE channel and had to install a sata hard drive or run the hard drive and cdrom on the same ribbon. If you run HD and CDROM on same ribbon set both to CS (cable select)
