Magnavox older tv; suddenly shows a "tutorial" which begins "Here's why this should be your next tv". then reviews tv's features ex: close captioning, sleep timer, language,...

Your TV appears to be in what is known as DEMO MODE, which is used when the TV is set up in the store on display.

In order to disable that mode and return it to normal operation, try the following procedure:

Turn on your TV.
Hold down the VOLUME UP and the VOLUME DOWN buttons at the same time for 10 seconds.
Be sure to use the buttons on the front of the TV and not the ones on the remote control.

Some models may turn off at this point while others may not. Either way, the set should now be ready for use in NORMAL MODE.

If that does not cure the problem, then check in your OWNER'S MNAUAL for the exact procedure on how to disable the demo mode feature.

I hope that was helpful to you, good luck and take care.

Joe.

I haven't been able to put closed captioning on tv. I don't understand how and what code to use to get the closed captioning to work.

Enable Caption Using the Original Remote
  1. Press the [CCD] button to change the CCD mode.
  2. Using this button will set the Closed Caption mode when viewing a DTV or TV channel.
Enable Caption Using the TV Menu
  1. Open the Menu screen, select the third icon, in the middle, this is the Setup Menu.
  2. In the Setup Menu, choose the Caption option.
  3. Caption: There are three items in it - Analog Closed Caption, Digital Closed Caption and Digital Caption Style
  • Analog Closed Caption: CC1, CC2, CC3, CC4, TEXT1,TEXT2, TEXT3, TEXT4.
  • Digital Closed Caption: Service1, Service2, Service3, Service4, Service5, Service6.
  • Digital Caption Style: There are two Caption Styles. One is the automatic function set as the broadcaster, while the other is the custom style where you can adjust the font size, color, opacity, background color etc., accordingly.

TV is 1995 Model 25TRC1-0101 Magnavox. Seems to

The tv has been accidentally set for "demo mode". Press the volume up and volume down buttons in front of the TV at the same time for about 5 to 10 seconds untill the demo disappears or sometimes the TV will turn off. You should regain control of the TV after this.

no captions will display on the screen.
