Using OEM compatible printer catridges for the Lexmark Z1420 printer.Want to reset the ink levels. In regedit there is a supplies value can this be used to reset levels.

if you are useing a refilled cartridge , ink cartridge has a chip built in that must be reset, if you look on line you can purchase a reseter. if you use a new ink cartridge it will show a full ink level

Lexmark advertises the cartridges supplied with this printer as cart. #28 and #29. They claim these are nonrefillable. The refillable cartridges are #28a,29a, 34 and 35, the last two being the high yield carts. Make sure you have one of these.

There really isn't. Lexmark's 'official answer' that I have seen is this:
Genuine Lexmark inks and cartridges are perfectly matched to the printing system to ensure that every document produced is of the highest possible print quality, providing long-term dependable service from your Lexmark printer. Using incompatible inks in an attempt to extend the life of a genuine Lexmark cartridge beyond its recommended usage can cause failures in several different areas of the printer. Any such damage to your printer caused by refilled ink cartridges will not be covered by your Lexmark printer Warranty, Extended Warranty or Service Agreement.
If the error message stopped you from using the refilled cartridges, you shouldn't have damaged the unit in any way.

To get your printer to recognize the new cartridge; go to start - printer and faxes -right click on printer - preferences (printing preferences) -settings -load factory settings. Print test page Ctrl+P
