I tried to install a Belkin Wireless G USB network adapter to my Dell dimension 1100. download was perfect. But when I inserted the usb cable from the adapter to the computer I got an error message stating that I wasn't hooked up to a high speed usb port, I tried every usb port on the computer, and got the same error message. Does the Dimension 1100 have a high speed usb port? If not how can one be installed. Thanks for your time. Delvin King
The 2 usb-ports on the front and the 3 back of your Dell is high speed ones, at least the manual says so, they are all USB 2.0. If you cant get them work properly with the 2.0 usb speed, you can buy an high speed pci add-in- card and install it on your pc.

you have no high speed ports installed on your computer. what you have is USB 1.0. you can however purchase a high speed USB pci card (usb 2.0) and install it in your computer to get faster transfer speeds.
This device is well known for the high level of current draw that it requires in order to work. I would suggest that you remove all other unnecessary USB devices and try the device again. It is more than likely that your system will find the device.
The quickest way of ensuring continued usage, when you have numerous USB devices, is to purchased a powered USB hub and ensure that the Wireless adapter is connected to one of the powered USB ports on the hub.
The Belkin site has very specific instructions for installing this adapter in a pc with Vista. These instructions are at: http://www.belkin.com/support/article/?lid=en&pid=F5D9050&aid=6112&scid=0 I would first unistall any Belkin Software that has already been installed, shut down the system completely and then restart. After you have fully restarted the system then follow the Belkin Site instructions EXACTLY. Any variation is apt to mean an unsuccessful install. Good Luck and have patience.
You may get some benefit from downloading and installing Netstumbler
This util will allow you to scan the channels and select a chanel with less devices on it. then change the broadcast channel in the wifi router. This may reduce interference in the connection.
Also cordless phones are notorious for interfering with wifi routers so put some distance between the router and the base if you can.
Another option is to get an external antenna for the router to boost signal strength
something like THIS or THIS and place up high on a shelf. Just check your router antenna is the sort that comes off... should unscrew. not all do unfortunately so be careful not to break yours!!
BTW - the router is not a bad unit but it also is not the best around either REVIEW
Uninstall the old installation of the driver and the restart the pc. disconnect the belkin and install the software of the belkin. After installation insert the belkin device and let the system detect it. if this act thesame then maybe you update the driver of your belkin here you can download: http://www.belkin.com/support/
Your computer may not be able to handle the 2.0 USB cardbus.
Your PC maybe 1.1 USB. If this is the case you might want to add an additional PCI card with 2.0 USB drives. This way you are up to date with the 2.0 cardbus. Resolve this issue and you should be fixed from the PC freezing.
what the adviser meant was your pc cannot provide enough power to the usb port to power the unit, assuming you have tried other ports and it still wont work; you will need to either purchase a pci usb 2.0 card adapter or purchase a mains powered usb hub and connect to this instead.
