Are you using the correct disc type??

The manual states that only discs that are labeled:

"Compact Digital Audio Disc Recordable" (Audio CDR)

*or*

"Compact Digital Audio Disc Rewritable" (Audio CD-RW) can be used.

The popular discs labeled "Compact Recordable" and Compact Disc "Rewritable" are for use in computers, and can NOT be used on the recorder.

Page 16 of the manual shows the graphic of the logos detailed above. The manual can be downloaded for free below:

Since these are candidates for the trash heap now, you have little to lose by trying to clean the the lens of the reader. Lightly dampen the end of a Q-Tip (cotton swab on a stick) with glass cleaner or ammonia. Blot the swab on a paper towel to remove excess cleaner and then access the glass lens of the CD player with the power off. *Gently* wipe the swab over the surface of the lens. The mechanism that holds the lens in place is pretty delicate, so go EASY.

Once done, power up & see if the player can read the disks.

What cds are needed enable to burn using the rca burner

You would need any brand of standard 80-minute CD-R (recordable CD).

I have a Sony Vaio desktop with XP. My DVD-CD

Have you tried burning a CD in the new drive? Because the drive is a DVD it will always be recognised as a DVD, but should work perfectly well with CDs both playing and recording.

Can operate with CD ROM's. Won't recognize DVD's.

Sounds like the drive could be going bad. The way the laser reads DVDs vs. CDs is different, that is why you are able to read one, not the other. I had this happen to me, except the opposite. It could read DVDs, not CDs. Had to buy a new one, and all is well.

Can't burn pass over 78 min on my burner

CDs can only store 800 Mb, which is exactly 78 minutes. If you need to burn more data than that onto a disk then you will need to burn DVDs with a DVD burner.
Please rate, Thanks!

I cannot find TDK XA80 CD-R Audio - Recordable Compact Discs

All you guys looking for AUDIO burner CDs' should try the MEMOREX CD-R MUSIC CDs. These are a new product, released to REPLACE the TDK XA80 AUDIO CDs.

Stocks are a bit low right now - but only because this is a new product - and people like me are buying up big.

'Tanya' at JB Hi Fi in Erina Fair on the NSW Central Coast, has promised me that she will be ordering plenty of these discs because she is aware of our dilema. Apparently Head Office of JB HiFi has also advised their numerous stores of this MEMOREX product and they should all be having them in stock shortly.

Product description:
Red cardboard box with 10 blank CDs in slim jewel cases. Marked "Memorex Music CD-R" 700MB (80min) Mine cost me $8.95c for this pack of ten.

These work fine on my stand alone, Hi-Fi LG dual tray burner and also on a mates' Pioneer CD burner. Good luck and thank God for Memorex!

Gary, Gosford NSW.

P;ease help me. i use real player to burn cds. ive never burt a dvd. but i want to use it now and my player keeps telling me my cd and dvd burners are not detected. why are they not working please help me.

burning and cd requires a cd burner... the fact that you burn cds does not necessarily mean that you can also burn dvd's.. to burn a dvd you need to have a dvd burner unit installed. check on tray that comes out on you cd/burner if it says RW DVD.. if not chances are you only have a cd burner but is not a dvd burner.

Device Won't Recognise Blank CD-R Media or Certain Music CDs.

try and see if you can pull a directory using explorer,, sometimes if you record to the full 80 minutes capacity, the disc will return an error,,,even if you recorded it on that drive...also i know this may sound strange but on the drive tray itself take the mount where the laser is mounted and extend it out to the furthest travel point ,,,gently,,,do not force...load the disc, and see if it is now recognized,,,sometimes it is a timing issue, and this way the tray/laser recalibrates itself....

CD tray opens and won't stay closed for burning

Sounds like an issue with the contact behind the button on the drive. How old is the drive? Replacements are cheap these days.
