Sounds like you have a frozen defrost drain. This is a fairly easy repair you can do yourself.

  • Unplug refrigerator
  • unload food from freezer
  • remove icemaker if present (there are 3 screws remove the one on the bottom and loosen the 2 on top of icemaker then lift it off the 2 screws unplug from wiring harness)
  • remove 2 screws holding rear cover in place
  • move cover to the side or remove from unit altogether
  • defrost any and all ice from bottom of freezer and aluminum drain pan that is now exposed
  • flush drain hole that you will see once ice is cleared with warm water. (sometimes I use a large syringe or turkey baster to forcefully flush hot water thru the drain tube)

that should fix you up. if you have any further questions leave me a comment here and I'll gladly help any way I can. thanks Peytonreassemble in reverse order

if you can clear the drain the way i have described here then running a wire down the drain is not necessary. usually hot tap water is suffcient. Thanks Peyton

You could pour a little bit of bleach in witht he hot water to help loosen and clear any sludge in the line as well...

Water at bottome of refrigerator

Under the draws in the back, there should be a drain hole that drains water down to the drain pan under the unit. Check to make sure it's not blocked with food or frozen water.

Water dripping from freezer into refrigerator

Just fixed my refrigerator last week that was doing the same thing. Water was dripping from the back top of the refrigerator and it was the drainage line in the freezer had frozen up and was plugged. Emptied the freezer and removed the bottom panel from the freezer and found large layer of ice. Turned freezer off and let everything melt. Then the hole in the back bottom of the freezer on the metal tray became visable. Contined to thaw until warm water would drain into the tray under the freezer. Was not hard at all and much better not cleaning up the water dripping all the time.

I have a model ET8CHKXKQ0 1 Whirlpool refrigerator and it keeps collecting water in the meat tray, the vegetable tray and under both vegetable trays. I have vaccumed under the frig., in the back and...

The drain in the freezer is clogging. When the defrost switches on, the backed-up ice thaws and starts dripping down into the fridge area.

Easiest is probably to turn off the fridge, let it thaw, then check the freezer drain to see if you can unclog it.

Otherwise, you have to pull out the bottom and back parts in the freezer (which will probably have some sort of ice frozen to them). Once you see the drain pan, get a turkey baster and flat head screw driver. You'll have to make a hole in the ice above the drain and squirt hot water until you hear it start draining. The drain hole is off center to the right in the drain pan.

Good luck

Water gathers in the bottom of the frig?? How can I stop this? The frig and freezer do just fine. Its just that water gathers in the bottom under the two compartments for veggies.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help. Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer.

Water always inside refrigerator sometimes ice forms

LadyBlues, This is a top mount freezer. What's happening is that the drain in the freezer area is frozen over. When the unit goes into defrost, the water is running into the refrigerator area instead of going down the drain hole. You will have to remove the freezer bottom panel and then the freezer rear panel to unclog the drain hole. It will be under the evaporator in the drain tray. Use some nice hot water from the microwave and pour it into the tray until the water flows down the drain tube. This should clear up your problem. Catriver.

Leaking water

test: first, turn off water supply to frig. then dry up all water. then ensure frig is running at right temperature. now gradually turn on water and observe where leak is. My guess is it is overflowing the ice-maker. there is an adjustment for this. pop off the cover over the end of the ice-maker. look for a screw adjustment. turn it counterclockwise.
