Question about Califone International 1030AV Turntable

Califone 1450K I recently moved and my Califone (old, but in good shape and has always worked) 1450K now will not turn on. It may have been stored on it's side by the movers. What can I do to fix it? Do you have any idea what is wrong? I tried plugging it into a surge protector also and still no luck. It's frustrating!

Ya, this is a tough one. If it was on it's side, and not handle properly, something may have come loose and caused some damage inside. If you have absolutely no power, then more than likely the power transformer fried. Not much else in these things that could have caused such an issue. At this point, you have to decide whether it's worth getting repaired, or buying a working used one. They go on ebay for about $30-50, which is much cheaper than getting it repaired. Transformers for these units run around $20-30, then you have to tack on labor, which will be in the 40 min range - that's if its the transformer. But I do understand if it has some personal value, so that is something to consider. Hope this helps some. - Justin DJPROAUDIO

Califone 1435k This record player from the 70s runs great and came highly recommended but the 33 records we're trying to play are sounding much too fast. Any ideas on how to fix this?

This is an idler wheel drive turntable that uses a small rubber wheel, that when engaged pushes on the motor spindle and also on the rim on the underside of the platter. The spindle on the motor is stepped so as you shift speed the idler wheel moves up or down the spindle and that changes the speed of the platter. It could be the the shifting mechanism is dodgy You can try to loosen it by gently shifting the speed from 78 to 16 and back again. But the idler wheel rubber might be in trouble too.

Platter not spinning

Some turntables only move when you move the arm to the record. If that doesn't work and you have read the set up instructions correctly, as it's new contact the maker or the place you purchased it from. I'm certain they will help.

I have an old Califone 1400 all records skip new needle

There's not enough pressure to keep the stylus down in the grooves. Increase the weight (on the end of the arm).

I have a Califone 1620 model economy classroom phonograph in need

Probably a bad relay switch. Open up the turntable. Identify the motor that spins the table. Follow the wires of that motor to, perhaps, some type of little circuit board with a relay. I have a Backley-Cardy 322-487 classroom phonograph which uses a Califone 1620 amp and a BSR turntable. To get the table to spin, you have to move the tone arm. Mine doesn't move and I'm in the process of replacing the faulty relay that is the problem.

Califone 1420 k "Wobbling sound"

If you take the platter off you may find a rubber "idler wheel" that rides on the inside rim of the platter. It may be worn or glazed over and hardened. Might try cleaning with denatured alcohol. If that doesnt work you may need a new idler wheel. West Tech Services is a place that comes to mind that may carry what you need.

Adjust pitch on a Califone turntable.

This one is actually fastened from underneath (inside). You need to open the player up and you will see the usual C shaped fastener on a cleat near the motor assembly. Most old direct drive record players have a C pin around the spindle that you can unfasten (pry with a twist) with a screwdriver. Irealize you figured this out yourself, but I'll take the guess work out for someone else... yeah..l you gotta take it apart!
